RESOLUTION N0.2008-24 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ISSUE 129 <br />THE MAYFIELD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT'S PROPOSED <br />6.9-MILL OPERATING AND PERMANENT IMPROVEMENT LEVY. <br />WHEREAS, the voters in the Mayfield City School District will be asked to approve <br />Issue 129 on November 4, 2008, a 6.9-mill Operating and Permanent Improvement Levy to <br />fund day-to-day expenses and to continue the safety and maintenance improvements at school <br />buildings; and <br />WHEREAS, through the recent efforts of the Board of Education, the last Operating <br />Levy passed in 2004, to be used for three years, was stretched to four years and $800,000.00, <br />was cut from the District's budget; and <br />WHEREAS, of the proposed 6.9-mill Operating and Permanent Improvement Levy, 5- <br />mills will be used to support classroom instruction and student support, including teachers, <br />textbooks, technology and transportation, and the additional 1.9-mills will be used to fund <br />Phase 2 of the Mayfield City School District's building improvements and safety program that <br />voters authorized in 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, if Issue 129 fails, $2.4 Million must be cut from the budget, resulting in <br />larger classes, layoffs, higher fees, the end of high school bussing, and no elementary school <br />children will be bussed if they live within two miles of school; and <br />WHEREAS, the Village wishes to express its support of the Mayfield City School <br />District and Issue 129. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. Village Council hereby and herein supports Issue 129, the Mayfield <br />City School District proposed 6.9-mill Operating and Permanent Improvement Levy. <br />SECTION 2. The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of the Council <br />relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; <br />and that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such formal action, <br />took place in meetings open to the public in compliance with all statutory requirements <br />including the requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />
