RESOLUTION N0.2008-27 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY RESOLUTION <br />URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO <br />ENACT A SILVER ALERT PROGRAM. <br />WHEREAS, approximately 3 million Americans with Alzheimer's and other <br />forms of Dementia go missing. If an elderly person is not found within 24 hours, there is <br />a 50% chance that the individual can suffer a serious injury or die; and <br />WHEREAS, there are ten states across the country using a Silver Alert program <br />inspired by Amber alerts for missing children. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF HAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Council of the Village of Mayfield wishes to urge the State <br />legislature to adopt an alert program similar to the Amber Alert used for missing <br />children. <br />SECTION 2. That the Clerk of Council be, and hereby is directed to forward a <br />copy of this Resolution to Governor Strickland and the Ohio State Representatives and <br />State Senators representing our area urging them to enact a similar alert program to the <br />Amber Alert used for missing children. The Clerk is further authorized to forward a copy <br />of this Resolution to all cities in Cuyahoga County as an indication of the Council's <br />urging for them to pass similar legislation. <br />SECTION 3. The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of the <br />Council relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at open meetings of <br />this Council; and that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in <br />such formal action, took place in meetings open to the public in compliance with all <br />statutory requirements including the requirements of Section 121.22 ofthe Ohio Revised <br />Code. <br />SECTION 4. This Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />necessary for the immediate preservation of the health, safety and welfare of the residents <br />
