FAILED 1-23-17 <br />ORDINANCE NO.2017-01 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Council as a Whole <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING SECTION 153.12 (B) AND (C) <br />PROVIDING FOR HEALTH INSURANCE FOR COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />WHEREAS, certain Mayfield Village employees are provided the opportunity for <br />healthcare insurance; and <br />WHEREAS, Council members are employees, and are obligated to be available for the <br />performance of their duties at any time necessary; and - <br />WHEREAS, given that the good health and welfare of legislators is critical for the <br />ongoing operations of the Village, it is the desire of Council to provide healthcare insurance <br />opportunities to its members. - <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Village of Mayfield, <br />County of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio: <br />SECTION 1. That section 153.12 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Mayfield <br />is hereby and herein amended as follows: <br />153.12 HOSPITALIZATION AND MEDICAL COVERAGE. <br />* :~ ~ <br />(b) Council members and Ppermanent full-time employees of the <br />Municipality not presently insured and new permanent full-time <br />employees of the Municipality may join the plan at such intervals as may <br />be authorized ~by the Municipality's medical insurance carrier, subject to <br />the approval of the Mayor and Finance Director. All members of Village <br />Council shall be treated as full-time employees for purpose of <br />participating in the health care plan only. This necessary benefit shall not <br />be considered as an increase in compensation. <br />(c) Any Council member or permanent full=time employee, who is <br />eligible to be covered under a contract of hospitalization and medical <br />coverage but voluntarily withdraws from coverage, shall be paid three <br />hundred dollars ($300.00) per month in lieu of family coverage and one <br />hundred dollars ($100.00) per month in lieu of single coverage. These <br />payments shall be made in equal quarterly installments. These payments <br />will not be made to any person who is otherwise covered under the <br />-- Employer's policy through a spouse or other family member.
