FAILED 1-23-17 ORDINANCE NO.2017-01 INTRODUCED BY: Council as a Whole AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 153.12 (B) AND (C) PROVIDING FOR HEALTH INSURANCE FOR COUNCIL MEMBERS WHEREAS, certain Mayfield Village employees are provided the opportunity for healthcare insurance; and WHEREAS, Council members are employees, and are obligated to be available for the performance of their duties at any time necessary; and - WHEREAS, given that the good health and welfare of legislators is critical for the ongoing operations of the Village, it is the desire of Council to provide healthcare insurance opportunities to its members. - NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Village of Mayfield, County of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio: SECTION 1. That section 153.12 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Mayfield is hereby and herein amended as follows: 153.12 HOSPITALIZATION AND MEDICAL COVERAGE. * :~ ~ (b) Council members and Ppermanent full-time employees of the Municipality not presently insured and new permanent full-time employees of the Municipality may join the plan at such intervals as may be authorized ~by the Municipality's medical insurance carrier, subject to the approval of the Mayor and Finance Director. All members of Village Council shall be treated as full-time employees for purpose of participating in the health care plan only. This necessary benefit shall not be considered as an increase in compensation. (c) Any Council member or permanent full=time employee, who is eligible to be covered under a contract of hospitalization and medical coverage but voluntarily withdraws from coverage, shall be paid three hundred dollars ($300.00) per month in lieu of family coverage and one hundred dollars ($100.00) per month in lieu of single coverage. These payments shall be made in equal quarterly installments. These payments will not be made to any person who is otherwise covered under the -- Employer's policy through a spouse or other family member.
