<br />Mr. Taylor, reporting for. the Finance Committee, .stated that at a meeting,..on
<br />May.. 18, ,1955 i~othirig"was accomplished relative' to the hiring. of a full time
<br />policeman.. Information used as a basis for the Sa%ety. CorrQnittee:~s recommenda-
<br />tion was not available at,that time and another meeting..was.held at .the .home
<br />of the.Clerk.on May 20th. At this meeting the entire. financial.._picture of
<br />the Village. ,was gone ~ into . thoroughly.._and _three or four. .possible.. plans .were
<br />presented. whereby. additions.. could be :made .to the police department without
<br />disturbing. our. budget. Council. discussed.these'plans separately, but were
<br />of the opinion that a full time policeman was most desirable if the salary
<br />could be squeezed into our .meager. budget. Police Chief.Diacon, who was. in the
<br />building, ,was called to the Council table and questioned by the mayor and
<br />various members. _of. Council.....:. The Safety .and Finance Committee ..then concurring
<br />on the advisability.. of adding. .another man.to our police force, Mr. Whiting
<br />introduced_Ordinance.No. 508 entitled;."An Ordinance.to Amend Sections-2, 3,
<br />and 5 of Ordinance No. I~70 .by. Providing for Appointment, Tenure, Compensation
<br />and Duties: of Members of ,the .Police Department": which a~dinance was read. to
<br />Council. _
