Mr. Z~delman reported on. the proposal of the State Highway Dept.
There is a piece of property on SO/y Road owned by Mr. A. J..Grootegoed,
which lies approximately 1500 feet from the corner of SO112 & l'Yilson ~iLl.s
Roads, and 528 feet iNest of SOIL Road, with a 20 foot lane leading back
to the 2-1/!~ acres, which the State Highway Department would like to
purchase. This.property is not zoned for business, and they are therefore
asking that the Council waive the zoning for this property to permit them
to use it for a road maintenance yard. Although the State may not be bou.rul
by~zoning ordinances, and could go ahead with their plans even though
Council did not waive the zoning, they prefer to have the consent of the
Council. They plan to erect a ~ unit garage to house their equipment and
to border two sides of the property with evergreens; the west and north
sides have a natural border of .trees. The property owners nearby have
been contacted by a representative of the Highway Department and none
seem to be opposed to the development, The Vi17.age would definite]~r
benefit from this station and its services. IJIr. Puino, a resident across
the street from this project, voiced one objection to the effect that the
men from the department°were parking and eating lunches on his front lawn.
It was revealed this took place during the time the driveway was being
graded and it was impossible for them to get back into the property.
I15ayor Svranson read a letter from T1r. ~Nilliam Doremus, the
special policeman, asking acceptance of his resignation from the police
department.
The P~Tinutes of the Safety Committee meeting held July 18, 1953,
were read by' the Mayor. It was felt that another ~'Do Not Entertt sign
was needed for the town hall driveway. This sign would cost approximately
~I~.00. Mr. Endres moved that the sign be purchased and installed. This
was seconded- by I4~r. Scheuring.
Roll Calls Ayes - Endres, Scheuring, Cass & Oatess.
Nays - None.
Il~otion Carried
The fire department is anxious to obtain the lotiv pressure pumper
equipment, which will give the part of the Village with water a class 8
rating' and will greatly reduce the insurance rate for the people on the
existing water mains. A low pressure pumper would cost approximately
X150.00, and also ~p150.00 to install. 700 feet of fire hose would be
required at a cost of roughly X1,000.00 making the total approximately
~l,l~00.00. The Commmittee recommended that Council approve the purchase
of this equipment if the funds are available.
Mr. Dixon has asked for an increase i.n salary from X350.00 to
~I~00.00 per month, or an arrangement whereby he has regular 8 hour days,
which would enable ham to obtain other part-time work to supplement his
take home pay. The Committee also recommended that the Chief.'s request
be granted.
Pay Ordinance No. 359-P was read by the Clerk.
Tt was moved by Idlr. Endres, s econded by Ills. Cass, that the Pay
Ordinance No. 359-P be passed as read.
2.
1
1
1
