Bennett stated-that, the subject of Sick Leave for employees is still <br />in Committee. ' <br />Village Street°Repairs.- Mr. Hovancsek stated the major work to be done <br />is on Hickory Hill as recommeded by the Service Director and hmsehfi, - <br />Mr. Bennett. questioned the letter. from Mr. Hovancsek listing some .29 streets. <br />Mr. Hovancsek clarified these streets have to be sealed, some were not 'done <br />last year,. ' <br />Mr.. Boger questioned the condition of Meadowood wh~~h was recent`ly~blaclc <br />topped. - <br />Mr. Hovancsek explained that the base is not properly drained, ~tYierefore ~~~~` <br />the road is raised and lowered• as thawing occurs. Not.,.too much damage.: <br />is done as. long as trucks•are_not permitted on the roads. New projects <br />are required to install proper drains. .•~ ~,~ <br />Wildwood/Timberline Cement problems .- Mr. Hovancsek reported-that he had <br />met with Mr. Ole Olman, Field Engineer of the Portland Cement Association. <br />He said he hsd-never seena a road of this age.in this .condition'. ~Mr. _, <br />Hovancsek recommended tests be done to determine the cause. ;. The bests <br />Cahill cost $3000.00., Extracting.. the cores will cost $460.00. The contractor <br />admits there is a problem.' Mr. Hovancsek requested permission to have. <br />the 1 ab tests :done .. ~ ' : - - - <br />Mr. Bennett questioned who would be responsible for the bill. <br />Mr. Hovancsek said the problem is either in the materials used or with. the <br />con,tracto~. improperly handling the cement at the time of the.po3a;ring.~ <br />The tests w~:ll reveal the exact cause and the material aupplier or the <br />contractor will be responsible. _ <br />Mr. Bennett asked~'~ahat the .normal years of service ~is expected' on :new' <br />streets'rarid-what our recourse ~is at this time. <br />Mr. Hovancsek sommented that the expected-life of .a street is around~20~years® <br />and the Village should expect a settlement from the ~p~son at fault. <br />Mr. F~eneli donfirmed the contractor and/or supplier would accept the test- <br />ing results .as .final , as the company is reputable or° they wau'h;~ have to'-:hire <br />another firm to test.at their expense. There is an implied warranty on these <br />streets which can be enforced in the courts. <br /> <br />
