<br />That is, two line items (out of 81 items) in the budget. Of his
<br />various responsibilities to the people of this fine community probably
<br />none rate higher than the Mayor's responsibility to see that"ordinances
<br />are up-held - that is, our laws - and to see that oursf~nancial posture
<br />remains sound - all related t~ the health, safety, and''~~welfare.of our

<br />Pepple in the Meadowood/Eastgate areas .are entitled to imilar action - ,
<br />which .action will cost some `$5d;U00`:,0~ th~,s'y~ar. As a s.deno'te, a
<br />section of Eastgate recently caved 3.n resul~~.nc~~ in an enomous cavern.
<br />As neighbors in the .area mow, th1~<> cor~ditzc~n was ext~'eutey serious.
<br />Had one of -our heavy ~'~.re vehicles:'~attempteG'#;.:+~ a run down that street
<br />it would have be~:i~ 'nothing; short o£ disastrous. That section is under .
<br />repair now. Several ot~;er'streets will also require unanticipated

<br />Regarding replacement of our FIRE VAN ~. while I consider this a
<br />priority item I.da not~.r;ate that expenditure .:justifiable at this time
<br />~($18,000.00'-anticipated cost): Despite a1T you may.h,ave read or heard'
<br />this Van, withless than~`$,000 miles on it, is in. generally good mech-
<br />anical condition. A recent heavy duty .battery replacement corrected
<br />its starting "ill's." and I am directing the Fire. Chief to look into a
