~.l
MINUTES OF A .S.PECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
Village of Mayfield Village
September 26, 1978
The Council of the Village of Mayfield met in Special Session
on Tuesday, September 26, 1978 at 8:15 P.M. in the Village Hall.
Council President, Vince B-asa presided.
Roll Call: Present: Messrs., Bennett, Busa, Grogan and Mrs. Hanus
Absent: Messrs., Boger, Bordonaro and Flynn
Also Present: Mayor Beebe, Messrs., Amendola, Feneli, Hovan-
csek and Relic
Mr. Busa stated the purpose of the special meeting was to pass legis-
lation but due to a lack of quorum, these mac~ters'would have tb be
referred to a later meeting. The flooding situation was to be a topic
for Caucus discussion but due to the presence of residents this eve-
ning, an open portion would be included in the meeting.
OPEN PORTION:
Mr. John Iafelice, of 6707 Wildwood Trail, stated he had 6" of water
in his basement from the last storm and everyone he has talked with _
regarding this has given him a different reason. He wou ld like to
know what is being done. The Village does not need this kind of
problem 'and the only reason he came was to see if action can be taken
now. If it rains again and I am flooded again everyone will know
about it.' You, the Village, say you•re sorry but what we need is ac-
tion. This .is a new street and the Village has the option now to make
the builder pay for the problems.
Mayor Beebe welcomed the new residents and said he realized this did
not help the residents but he wanted to stress the extreme amount of
flooding that took place in•the Village and the surrounding areas
were due to the heavy rains. This has been the first time for many
residents and he as well as all Council people are aware of the flood-
ing that occurred and it is apparent that a problem does exist and
had asked Steve Hovancsek, the Engineer, to check the grades. He had
bee~nflooded also after having invested $3600 for new drains. He did
not blame the contractor, it was just an unusual amount of rain that
cam too fast for the sewers to handle. He asked Steve to elaborate
on the subiject.
Mr. Hovancsek said he and Mr. Ameridola went out after the rain and
observed the destruction and talked wig the people involved. There
were several. reasons for some cf_ the flooding. The massive rains went
into some open basement windows. The muddy water came from the un-
pluged sanitary sewers of the unfinished basements in the area. This
matter will have to be enforced in the future. Judging from the amount
of water there could be another problem. Possibly improper connections
of the downspouts into the sanitary sewers. He wrote a letter asking
the 5a~.itarX Engineer to do a smoke test. He has not had a reply as
yet but anticipates one soon and will let Council know as soon as he
is notified.
