That is not true. So, on balance, when all things are considered, I am <br />expressing to you my heartfelt feeling is that we are trying to look out for the interests <br />of everyone. We are truly keeping what we think is a responsible point of view in <br />looking out for our residents and for anybody who has to deal with this intersection. <br />CO There are a lot of people who do not live in Mayfield Village who have to travel through <br />C0 it. We have tried to weigh all factors objectively and fairly. We do not want to <br />? inconvenience you. As I said in the letter, and I would say it again tonight, we are, we <br />will continue, I would certainly very easily entertain a recommendation from Council to <br />z have the authority to expend more dollars if it will make this project go quicker and <br />? efficiently and safer. But, based upon a very close discussion with a lot of people, I do <br />not endorse opening up Highland Road. I do not think it is safer; I think it is <br />dangerous. I am not saying that because I have anything to gain from this, or that I <br />have some ulterior purpose, or that there is some hidden agenda here. The literature <br />quite frankly, implies that there is some benefit to be gained by creating a problem. <br />That is not true at all. We are really trying to do this fairly. <br />Mr. Marino, said the signs on SOM Center Road are adequate, but after you turn into <br />Metro Park Drive or Hickory Hill, there are no signs to direct you to Wildwood Trail. <br />Mrs. Cinco asked Chief Stevens to look into proper signage. <br />Mayor Rinker addressed Chief Stevens and asked is there is anything that he has <br />misstated as far as your understanding of what you have to deal with, with the safety <br />and what you know about these two alternatives. Is there anything I am saying that is <br />incorrect? <br />Chief Stevens said no, you have covered it. I am not sure that the people in general <br />have an understanding of it. First of all, I would say that I am just a police officer; I am <br />not a traffic engineer. I share the concerns of all the residents for their inconvenience. It <br />also inconveniences us to get to your homes for service. But the safety issue, when I <br />was asked for my opinion, if you compromise the one-way traffic pattern which has <br />been engineered through the system northbound with a westbound traffic pattern as <br />well, there is a compromise to safety. That is; there is a risk of increased incidence of <br />accident or injury up there. As far as access goes, some of the calls I received regarding <br />access of emergency equipment, some of you should be advised that even with a <br />. westbound traffic pattern coming out of Wildwood and Highland, that our emergency <br />equipment, not necessarily the police cars--but certainly the ambulances and the fire <br />trucks, could not make that turn anyway and would still have to divert to Metro Park to <br />service your vicinity. But, basically what the Mayor has stated is the facts as we know
