Regular Council Meeting
3/18/96
Page 17
that (about $501000), but they assured him they will get back to him within a few
weeks as to whether or not it will be razed.
Council President Fixler said if not, he thinks we may have to take stronger
measures.
Mr. Samac said whatever Council wants, he will be happy.to issue.
Council President Fixler said regarding the crack sealing, as far as the new material--
will it hold up better than we have put in previously.
Mr. Hovancsek said it is only good for cracks up to a maximum of five inches.
Larger cracks will require some asphalt patching.
Council President Fixler asked if we have the ability to do that this year.
Mr. Metzung said we certainly will. He met with the representative from the crack
sealing company. The representative described the product he wishes to use which
is a crack sealer with fiber and stones. He believes it is worth a try. Unless we do
saw cutting, etc., the asphalt probably won't hold up much longer than what the
representative stated the sealant will. Mayor Rinker said he believes we must make some priority decisions about some
places we want to sawcut--because if `we let them go, they will only get worse.
Mr. Hovancsek said some of the areas will require total replacement later on. We
are trying to hold it together until the funding is there to do major work.
Mr. Busa questioned why the property [the Schulz property] can't be burned and
why we would have to pay for it.
Chief Mohr said it is their responsibility to pay for it. It cannot be burned because
there is an EPA requirement where the Village would have to pay $1,600-1,700 to
have an inspector check for asbestos. If we would have burned it down last summer
or fall, as dry as it was, it would have set the entire north end on fire.
