We did a lot of
planning and looking to the future: - We want taAstay srnall, we want tQ'recognize.the fact that we
live ui a metropolitan area and have a cosmopolitan environment, yef we want to balance
vigorously and preserve the rural qualities that we cherish. We are a smaIl community with a lot
ofgood resources. During 1997-98 we were laying the foundation;for_a;,lot of plans we had
worked,on. We bought a lot of land--we are still in the pxocess-of acquiruig`acres that we had
earmarked for the Village... We have gone from under 10 acres and will probably`?nd up with
over 130 acres. Iri-that; we are dedicating a chunof :land for some' high-powered development.
It is an opporturiity we have because of the revenue, we think we will get from'it. This is the last
developed'-.area in the Viliage. The zoning plan adopted by the Village in the 60's has finally
-reached rriaturity.. The question is,,"where do we; go from here?" 1999 is a year of btiilding
cornerstones. We will be preserving and maintaining; the services that are :a'hallmark-of our
community. We will also, however, be embarking on a couple of major projects. We will build
a sivviliiining pool. We plan to preserve a wetland area of about 30 acres next to it. Surrounding
those two distinct recreational kinds ofuses, we have`aI fair amount, ofland that we want to keep
in the public trust. The balance of that along I-271 is developed for commercial use.. Progressive
has already but completed its.first building. They have started the second building and we
understand they are akeady planning the 3`d structure. We anticipate we will hear from the
Goldbergs and Forest City: (vctlio own land in the southernportion of our Northwest Quadrant.)
That will generate a whole different set of plans. We will have to react and try to anticipate what
other kind of development is there. Mayor Rinker showed S.O.M. on the Village map and said it
is a spine for our Village. If no one thinks that S.O.M. Center Road does not have a profound
