Regular Council Meeting
5-17-99
Page 13
Dr. Parker, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to authorize the Mayor and President of
Council to enter into an agreement with Cleveland Coca Cola Bottling Co., Inc.
Mr. Thomas said this stemmed from his discussion with Pepsi-Cola regarding a scoreboard that
was placed at Wiley Park which was a manual scoreboard, not electronic. He is suggesting the
Village go with Coca Cola as our supplier for the outdoor pool. Additionally, they would like to
place 3 vending machines at Wiley Park, one at the Outdoor Pool, and one at the Fire Station and
another one at Village Hall. As a result of that they would supply 2 electronic scoreboards at
Wiley Park ($6,500) and they would write in for additional scoreboards for possible expansion
for a$10,000 agreement. He knows the Finance Committee discussed the length of the contract
which was 10 years and asked if we could do better. His concern is that he has time restraints in
order to-have products in place when the pool opens.
Mr. Fixler said John Iafelice, a Village resident has done a lot of concession vuorkat the Airport
and Berea. Before we enter into the CocaCola bottling contract and the contract with Joan
Horowitz, we talked with Mr. Thomas at the Fina.nce Meeting about having Mr. Thomas talk to
someone else--Mr. Iafelice. Since this needs to be done as quickly as possible, maybe a Special
Council Meeting could be held.
Mr. Busa thinks 10 years is a long time. He does not like to commit future Councils. Plus, the
first year is experimental.
Dr. Parker agreed with Mr. Bnsa. He thinks we would be shortsighted not to have Pepsi give us
a quote. The dollars they are providing doesri't seem like a lot.
1V1r. Brett suggested any proposals we solicit be solicited without people seeing them. Maybe we
can go one year without scoreboards and look at straight case-by-case commission.
Mayor Rinker asked what kind of timetable do we operate under to get any kind of agreement in
place in time.
Mr. Thomas said a couple of weeks.
Mayor Rinker asked about-Mr. Iafelice.
Mr. Fixler said perhaps Mr. Iafelice is a large enough customer perhaps if he tied in with Coke
we could get a better contract. Mr. Iafelice has been doing this a long time.
Mr. Thomas said we are dealing with two components--opening the pool on July 3rd. His priority
is dealing with the product for the concession stand.
Mayor Rinker said he understands that Coke or Peps'rmight be tied into our concession stand
deal. He wants to be sure everyone understands the timetables.
