Organizational Council Meeting <br />1/2/95 <br />Page Two <br />Mr. Diemert asked for a roll call on the nomination of Mark Fixler for Council President. <br />A yes vote is for his appointment as Council President. <br />AYES: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mr. Fixler, Mr. Flynn <br />NAYS: Mr. Basile, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ferrante <br />Motion Carried <br />Mr. Diemert said the Charter requires four votes as the majority. Mr. Fixler is the 1995 <br />Council President. <br />Mr. Diemert said the next order of business is to elect a President Pro Tem and asked if <br />Mr. Fixler would like to take over. <br />Mayor Rinker administered the oath of office to Mark Fixler as Council President. <br />Mr. Fixler said before we go on to electing a Council President Pro Tem, he would like <br />to take the opportunity to state a few words. He is very pleased that he has this <br />position tonight. He wants to thank Joanne Cinco for her excellent work over the past <br />couple of years. This is a situation where you have one Council President and one <br />Council Pro Tem. It is a situation that he felfi the timing was right and, obviously, some <br />colleagues did as well. He appreciates Mrs. Cinco's ability to not only run the meetings, <br />but to be able to make Council informed on different issues. He hopes she will be there <br />for guidance in the fuiure; he knows they aren't holding any personal grudges. He <br />looks forward to working with her in the future. To his colleagues who have not voted <br />for him this evening, Mr. Fixler said he looks forward to the challenge of showing them <br />that sometimes change is okay. There is nothing wrong with change. They are two <br />different people. He believes in doing things in a certain way. Obviously, Mrs. Cinco <br />did as well. As we go along throughout the year and discuss different issues, he is sure <br />there will be a difference in styles. Hopefully, we can accomplish a great many things. <br />He will be working on the Council appointments tliis week. He looks forward to <br />speaking to each of them before that. He hopes to have them in line by next Caucus. <br />Again, he appreciates the opportunity and is looking forward to working with all of <br />you. <br />NOMINATIONS FOR COUNCIL PRESIDENT PRO TEM <br />Mr. Fixler opened the floor for nominations for Council President Pro Tem. <br />Mr. Basile, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to nominate Wally Ferrante.
