Regular Council Meeting
2/20/95
Page Nine
Chief Mohr said the original sprinkler ordinance dates back to 1973. In anything other
than a single family home, this ordinance requires the installation of sprinklers that
would help put out a fire in case there would ever be one. He said if it would be okay
with Council, he would like to see this ordinance given the full three readings.
Mr. Samac said he will be submitting a request for a slight revision to the ordinance. It
involves multi-family occupancies; it modifies the regulations so as to remove the
requirement for monitored detectors in each suite. (Each suite would still be covered by
a battery-operated device.) Common/public areas must have monitored smoke
detectors. They thought that by requiring a detector in each suite, the fire department
would receive a lot of nuisance calls. Mr. Samac will be forwarding the amendment for
the next meeting.
Mrs. Cinco and Mr. Busa withdrew their motions to suspend the rules of Council.
Mr. Busa and Mr. Ferrante withdrew their motions to enact Ordinance No. 95-08.
Ordinance 95-08 will remain on first reading.
Mr. Flynn asked who will be responsible for the detectors.
Chief Mohr said the current building occupant or owner will be responsible for
maintaining the units and for installing any new equipment.
Mr. Flynn asked questioned the time frame for compliance.
Chief Mohr said it goes from this point [upon passage] forward (regarding sprinklers.)
Mr. Samac explained those buildings without suppression systems have three years to
comply--they must be fully equipped by that time.
First Reading of Ordinance No. 95-09,. entitled; "An emergency ordinance amending
Section 1381.01 relative to the definition of "dish antenna." Introduced by Mayor Rinker
and Council as a Whole.
Mr. Busa, seconded by Mr. Ferrante, made a motion to suspend the rules of Council
requiring an ordinance to be read on three separate occasions.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Rules Suspended
