NIINiJTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
September 21, 1999
The Council of Mayfield Village met in special session on Tuesday, September 21, 1999, at
seven fifty-two p.m. (7:52 p.m.) in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room.
Council President Bill Marquardt presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ilacqua,
Mr. Marquardt, Mrs. Mills and Dr. Parker
Absent: None
Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Diemert and Mrs. Roman
Council President Marquardt said there are two items on tonight's agenda: Executive Session to
discuss real estate matters and the consideration of an ordinance. There is not an item here for
comment by the public; however, if anyone wishes to make a comment, they may do so at this
time. (They must state their name and address; we will allow 5 minutes.)
Carol Coghill said she would like her husband to address Council on her behalf.
Paul Coghill 741 Oakwood Drive, said he is speaking for his wife, Carol. She is a lifelong
member of Mayfield United Methodist Church-with considerable family history relating to the
foundation of the Church. Her family donated the property over 100 years ago and were a part
of the rebuilding when the Church burned down in the 1940's. The Church is a historical
landmark and should be established as that. It has served this community as well as the
surrounding communities for all that. time. It is the heart of the community and it breaks her
heart to see the Church divided and it to be taken away from the community. She hopes the heart
and soul of the Church remains in Mayfield Village.
Vivian Work. 975 S.O.M. Center Road, said there are at least 225 members presently that did not
take the vote last year that are against the move and are planning to vote this time.
Nelson Marrotte, 6801 Glenview, said he does not understand the Village's interest in purchasing
that particular piece ofproperty--particularly at that particular price. We have a good piece of
property on this side of the street to serve as a good location for a Village Hall. Having been
with that Church for 40-50 years, he is pretty well acquainted with its physical shortcomings and
it certainly is in no condition to be used for any Village purpose in its present condition. He is
guessing that. it would cost you almost as much as you are paying for the property to make it
useful for the Police or Village offices. It seems strange to-him that you are willing to pay that
kind of money for that particular property. Mr. Marrotte said he hasn't heard anything contrary
in the papers as what you intend to do with it. You certainly aren't going to use it as a rental
piece of property for a Church or whatever. It is only partially air conditioned, it doesn't have a
fire system that could be used for public purposes. You can't get handicapped people anywhere
