Regular Council Meeting
10-18-99
Page 2
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS
Service - Mr. Metzung asked that the fencing be removed from tonight's agenda. We have some
concerns about salt loading in that area and he would like to get those cleared up before we buy
anything. The signalization for the North Commons area is being pushed back by another 30
days. They are having trouble getting the poles for the signal lights. We are now looking at the
end of December for the lights on S.O.M. and the end of February for the decorative lights at
North Commons Boulevard and Parkview Drive.
Mayor Rinker questioned the number of employees there now:
Mr. Dolence said we have about 900-1000 people in that building now; we'll probably be good
there until about January 1St
Mr. Metzung said we have installed a control gate at the High School retention basin where we
had built a berm and outlet pipe last year. This year, we put a gate to help try to control some of
that water. He has addressed-Mr. DiVincenzo's concern.
Mr. Metzung said the path and berm at the Wetlands have been completed; all we need is a
bridge.
Mr. Diemert said he had written a letter to Council about Midvale.
Chief Mohr said about 35 people attended the Y2K Seminar that Mr. Thomas.put on with the
community. We will meet with Mrs. Kalina and bring another meeting to the afternoon for those
who could not attend the night session.
Chief Mohr showed the light sticks the Fire Department in conjunction with the Police
Department is passing out for Halloween. When snapped, the sticks glow in a florescent color.
We will pass them out to kindergartners at the Halloween Party so they will glow in the dark
when they go out trick-or-treating.
Chief Mohr said he would like permission to sell the 1979 surplus ambulance in an "as is"
condition. [It is on the agenda.)
Mr. Thomas said 20 students are participating in the first Halloween window-painting contest.
There are some 17 windows throughout the community that are being painted by 6th, 7~' and 8th
graders.
Mr. Thomas said the Wetlands Committee is holding a special forum on Tuesday, November 16
at 7 p.m. in the Community Room on Amphibians and Life in Vernal Pools by Tim Matson,
