r'
-, January 17, 1983
To 14ayor and Council:
The employees of Mayf ield Village would like to openly state tb Mayor and Council
our understanding of the clifficult position assumed by Mayor and Council, when due
to uncertain economic times, you decided against any wage increases for the municipal
employees.
The employees of Mayf ield Village were greatly relieved to receive your letter stating
that we need not contemplate lay-offs, shorter work weeks or reduced hospitalization
due to the current financial condition of Mayfield Village. Indeed we are grateful
to serve an administration and community which is concerned with preserving what has
been traditionally a benefit of being a municipal employee - job stability.
As nearly all Village employees are responsible either wholly or in part for support-
ing their respective households, we too are acutely aware of rising costs necessary
for maintaining an acceptable standard of living. We also can not project with any
certainty what income we will receive or what financial set backs we may encounter
throughout this coming year. While this may not be a pleasant situation for us to
accept you can see where it has given us the ability to comprehend the basis for your
decision.
? The employees of Mayfield Village held an informational meeting on Wednesday, January
12, 1983. At that meeting we discussed our feelings and views and the employees
present agreed to cooperate with the administration and take the administrations word
that they would reconsider their financial position during the first part of July.
The employees of Mayf ield Village would like the Village Administration;:and the
Village residents to know that because we are victims of circumstance in these
economic times, this will not effect the service that the residents of Mayfield Village
have come to know and expect. We will continue to provide the best possible service
that we are capable of providing. We want you to know that even these hard economic
times can not penetrate deep enough to damage the pride, dedication and professionalism
that all of the employees feel.
The employees of Mayf ield Village feel that we must all.do what we can to help see
the Village through these difficult economic times, so that we all, employees and
residents alike, can reap the future advantages that a financially sound community
should enjoy.
Thank you.
4
Respectfully,
