23
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Village of Mayf ield
February 21, 1983
The Council of the Village of Mayfield met in Regular Session on Monday,
February 21, 1983, at 8;12 p.m. in the Village Hall. Acting Mayor, Vince
J. Busa, presided.
Roll Call: Present: Messrso, Busa, Carmen, Etzler, Flynn, Spellman, Mrs.
Bloom and Mrs. Hanus
Absent : Mayor Beebe
Also Present Were . Messrs., Amendola, Feneli, Hovancsek, Toth, Chief
Hejcl and Chief Stevens
OPEN PORTION
Mr. .George Goley, 865 Lander'Road.- requested that when Council consider the
minutes of the January 17 Council Meeting they include the comments he made
that were not listed in the rough draft copy of the minutes. He said he also
stated that Council was apparently opening themselves up to a lawsuit that .
would be very costly to the village residents. Mr. Goley said he contacted
the Board of Elections and apparently they cannot provide any information as
to what is required for a Mayf ield Village resident to run for off ice in 1983.
The problems they cited were that the Village never reported the breakdown of
the wards and the population in them to.the Board of Elections. They informed
him that they have asked the Village several times for this information.
Also, the Board of Elections eluded that a member.of Council has questioned
the validity.of an election taking place and they are now referring to their
legal counsel. Apparently the person that voiced an objection stated they
were elected for a four.year term and did not feel it would be fair (even if
mandated by the people which the charter changes were) to have another
election only two years later. Mr. Goley requested that the Mayor and Council
submit the requested ward information (breakdown and population) to the Board
of Elections so that persons interested in running, if there is an election
in 1983, will have access to that information.
Mr. Busa said apparently Mr. Goley is running for off ice, or planning on it.
Mr. Goley said he did not say that.
Mr. Busa said he did. He said Council is quite aware of all that Mr. Goley
mentioned. Just because the Board of Elections says they do not have something
does not mean we didn't give it to them. If they need something we will provide
it for them if th ey ask for it. He asked Mr. Feneli if he would like to discuss
this subject now or later.
