-173
MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
Ma.yfield Village
October 1 st, 1990
The Council of Mayf'ield Village met in Special Session on Monday, October 1 st, 1990, at
8:09 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Mayfield Village Hall. Council President Patsy Mills
presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Basile, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ferrante, Mr. Flynn, Mrs. Mills,
Mr. Pietrafese, and Mr. Rinker
Absent: None
Also Present Were: Mayor Carmen, Mr. Amendola, Mr. Hovancsek, Mr. Patrick,
Mr. Ramos, Chief Stevens, Chief Mohr, and Miss Heath
Mrs. Mills stated that the Special Meeting was called to consider further repair of the ball diamonds
at Wiley Park. She asked Mark Fixler (Recreation Board member in the audience) to explain the
proposal.
Mr. Fixler said he gave Mr. Pietrafese three pictures of the field completed by S.O.M. Center
Road. He has been checking on what it would take to put the rear field in good condition for.next
year. The reason it needs to be done now is that it takes two growing seasons to make it playable.
If it is put off unril spring we will not be able to use it. Mr. Fixler said he has come up with a cost
estimate for the restorarion of the rear ball diamond which includes a drainage system. The amount
of the estimate is less than originally thought of.
Mayor Carmen provided an update of the meeting he attended at the School Board. He said that
the School Boazd is holding a Special Meeting on October 8. Mayor Carmen explained that even
though the Village may be able to work out something with the School Boazd, because of the 28-
bid process they must follow that it would be too late to help us for next year.
Mayor Carmen stated that future Village Days events aze likely to be significandy different. He
explained one of the reasons is because we received a better reaction after Fifties' Night for what
work went into it. Mayor Cazrnen said he will make a presentarion to Council about their helping
to plan a new kind of Village Days that would not be held at Wiley Park. He said if monies aze
expended for repair of the ball diamonds, we will not have to worry about putting monies back in
after Village Days next year. He said he wants them to think about repairuig the diamond this year.
Mayor Carmen said he would like to talk about putting in tennis courts not as a project for next
yeaz, but a long-term goal. He feels it makes sense to go forward with refurbishing the diamond
so the children will have a place to play next year.
Mr. Ferrante asked what happens to the other fields at Center School.
Mayor Carmen said we have used those fields in the past but they are not in good condition. Even
if we get a proposal from the school we like, we would need to have two diamonds in good shape.
Mr. Pietrafese said the diamonds behind Center School are used for the younger children. The
fields at Wiley are used for the middle to older girls and boys.
Discussion was held.
