MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
April 10, 1989
The Council of Mayfield Village met in Special Session on Monday, April
10, 1989, at 7:38 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Mayfield Village
Hall. Council President Santo Basile presided.
Roll Call: Present: Mr. Basile, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Flynn, Mrs. Mills,
Mr. Petschauer, and Mr. Santoro
Absent : Mr. Santoro
Also Present Were : Mr. Amendola, Mr. Patrick, and Mr. Ramos, and
Miss Heath
Mr. Basile said that the Special Meeting was called to consider
Resolution No. 89-24 regarding the award of a bid for the construction
of a service road.
First ReadinR of Resolution No.89-24, entitled; "A RESOLUTION
DECLARING NORTHEASTERN ROAD IMPROVEMENT COMPANY TO BE THE LOWEST AND
BEST BIDDER FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SERVICE ROAD AND GRADING,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND PRESIDENT OF COUNCIL TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT
WITH SAID BIDDER, REJECTING OTHER BIDS RECEIVED AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY." Introduced by Mayor Carmen and the Entire Council.
Mr. Amendola said that both bids that were received for this project
were higher than he had expected. He explained the original intent was
that a portion of the work would be done by the Village Service
Department over a period of time and that the contractor would come in
to do work on a piecemeal basis. He said that we did not need this
much work done at this time. Mr. Amendola explained that the main
reason the bids were higher than he anticipated is because the landfill
prices have gone up sky high. Mr. Amendola said that he had discussed
an alternative proposal with one of the contractors which would take
care of about 1/3 of the work to be done. The Village would have to
buy road materials in addition to what we have. The additional, work
could be completed at a later time.
A brief discussion followed.
Mr. Ramos said that two written proposals would be sufficient as long
as the bids are under $5,000.
Mr. Basile asked Mr. Amendola to obtain two (separate) written
proposals for the excavating work necessary for the construction of the
service road, and for the asphalt work required.
Council requested that Mr. Amendola have the proposals for their
Council Meeting on Monday, April 17.
