143 <br />NIINIJTES OF A SPECIAL 1VIEETING OF COUNCII, <br />Mayfield Village, <br />August 21, 1992 <br />The Council of Mayfield Village met in Special Session on Friday, August 10, 1992, at six o'clock <br />p.m. (6:00 p.m.) in the Council Chambers at the Village Hall. Council President Bruce Rinker <br />presided. <br />ROLL CALI.: Present: Mr. Basile, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ferrante, Mr. Fixler, Mr. Flynn, <br />and Mr. Rinker <br />Absent: None <br />Also Present Were: Mayor Pietrafese, Mr. Diemert,lVliss Heath <br />Mr. Rinker said Council is convening a Special Meeting regarding the criminal indictments <br />involving Mayor Pietrafese. In talking with various Council memlers on an individual basis, he <br />said it seemed they should probably convene a meeting. Because it involves personnel, they <br />would be entitled to be able to go into Executive Session. However, Mr. Rinker said, all of <br />Council agreed they do not want to appear as if they are dealing behind closed doors. Mr. Rinker <br />read the following statement on behalf of all members of Council: <br />8/21/92 <br />AS PUBLIC OFFICIALS OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, WE ARE MINDFUL OF <br />- THE GRAVITY OF THE FORMAL CRIMINAL CHARGES WHICH HAVE BEEN <br />BROUGHT AGAINST MAYOR PIETRAFESE. WE ARE DISTRESSED BY <br />THEM. <br />HOWEVER, WE UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT THE FACT THAT <br />EVERY CITIZEN SO ACCUSED IS ENTITLED TO FULL COIVSTITUTIONAL <br />RIGHTS TO DEFEND HIMSELF: TO BE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL <br />PROVEN OTHERWISE, TO REMAIN SILENT WITHOUT CRITICISM FOR <br />Cgi00SING TO DO SO, AIVD FOR HAVING A FAIR OPPORTUIVITY TO <br />CONFRONT HIS ACCUSERS I1V A JURY TRIAL. <br />WE THEREFORE SHALL REFRAIN FROM FURTHER COMMENTING <br />UPO1V OR ACTING UPOIV THESE CHARGES, I1V DEFERENCE TO THE <br />PROPER AUTHORITIES WHOSE JOB IS TO PROSECUTE THEM. <br />WE INTEIVD TO MOIVITOR THESE EVENTS, AS OUR <br />COIVSTITUENTS EXPECT AND DESERVE, BUT WILL OTHERWISE <br />COIVTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER AS THE GOVERMENT OF THIS VILLAGE <br />IN ALL WAYS THAT ARE LAWFUL, IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF OUR <br />COMMUNITY. <br />
