A. <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL <br />- Village of biayfielri <br />October 19, 1981 <br />The Council of the Village of Mayfield met in regular session on <br />Monday, October 19, 1981, at 8:00 P.M. in the Village.Hal]_. Council <br />President, Lawrence J. Flynn, presided. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given. <br />Roll Call: Present: Messrs., Carmen, Etzler, Flynn, Spellman, <br />Mrs. Hanus and Miss Trask <br />Absent : Mayor Beebe, Mr. Busa,.Mr. Feneli <br />Also Present Were . Gus Amendola, Steve Hovancsek9 Ruth Ruggles, <br />Eloise h7aynard, Chief Hejcl and Ptl. Wheatcroft <br />OPEN PORTION <br />Mr. Tom Schikowski, 6447 Wilson ivlills Road (owner of the Marathon <br />Station), stated he was present tonight to ask Couricii for a permit <br />to illuminate his Marathon signe <br />Mr. Flynn asked Mr. Amendola if this was the correct procedure for <br />Mr. Schikowski to follow. <br />N1r. Ame.ndola explained that this sign was not accepted by the <br />Architectural Review Board as it has a white background with dark <br />letters and that the req.uirement is the sign have a dark background <br />with white lettering.. He stated the sign man.had agreed the sign <br />would not be illuminated if it was put up the way it was. <br />Mr. Dick Barber; a Representative of_ the Marathon Company from North <br />Olmsted, stated he was told by the sign people that he had to come <br />to Council to receive permission to illuminate the sign. He <br />expla;_ned the problems involved, that they cannot change the copy- <br />right on the trademark of.their sign. He stated that no other <br />municipality had disapproved of the sign and could not understand <br />why it would be considered a safety hazard. He questioned the <br />difference between their sign and the Sohio sign. <br />Mr. Amendola stated that the sign man had requested a permit on <br />the day he wanted to put the sign up (normally a months notice <br />is given). He stated the decision had been made via a telephone <br />poll to the members of the Architectural Review Board. He <br />explained the restrictions imposed on signs were to reduce the <br />glare on traffic and stated that most signs on Wilson Mills were <br />located across from residential property.
