Regular Council Meeting
3-17-97
Page 6
Dr. Parlcer said this issue has probably generated more response from his constituents than any
other issue. As a body which represents our various wards and wards at large, it is incumbent
upon us as a Council to raise questions and take stands on certain issues that affect the citizens of
our community. It is important that we find the best qualified 'mdividual to lead this school system
into the 21' century and beyond. He believes that rushing the issue is only going to create a
greater problem. Our system is set up to operate and run. He does not believe it will hurt our
system to be without a superintendent for 9 months. If anything, it will allow us the time for
everyone to come together and have an opportunity to express their wishes or desires so we can
pick the best man for the job so he can be around for the next 20 years or so.
Mrs. Cinca said it was brought to her attention that we have to ask ourselves what is our job as
elected officials. It is so impartant to listen. To provide this to our citizens is what we are doing
tonight with this resolution. We are asking for an opportunity for our citizens to be heard. Our
intent by passing this (and it will be unanimously) is to give our citizens a focus within which to
express fiheir frustrations, their concerns. It kind of gives them input into the decision-making
process. Our response to the fast pace happenings over the last few mon:ths is, piease slow down,
iisten to the community, do some fact-finding-what is necessary to bring us all togetlier. We
believe it is a critical issue and 1Vlayor Rinker has articulated it wi#h a very sensible pmint of view.
It is logical and he feels it calls for a chance far citizens to come on board and fvrm a consensus
on operating a sensible, responsible process. Council President Pro Tem Cinco asked the Law
Director to read the resolution ti#le.
Resoiution No. 97-06,-entitled; "A resolution urging the Mayfield City School Board to delay any
decision to select the superintendent and aflow the electian process to identify the important
issues facing the schools and our community." Introduced by Mayor Rinker and Council as a
Whole.
Mr. Busa, seconded by Mr. Buckholtz, made a motion to adopt Resoiution No. 97-06.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS : Nane
IdTation Carried
Resolution Adopted
Mrs. Cinca stated, for the minutes, that Mr. Ferrante and Council President Fixler support this
also.
Mr. BuckhoItz said he would welcome cmmments from the school board if we were involved in
something that was going to affect the schools or the school property in any way. He thinks very
recently we had some income from Progressive about, the tax dollars and we were approached by
the school board. He welcomes their input. We are a.]1 here for the same purpose.
D?EPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS '=-

?
