RINKER
Mayor
Memorandum
Date: August 18, 2000
From; SOM Center Road Widening Committee
To: Mayor Rinker, Council, Department Heads, SOl~rl i~~ ~pmmittee
RE: Median Recommendation
Fellow Members of Council,
CARMENILACQUA
Councilman
This past Tuesday, August 15, the SOM Center RoEtd'~~~'Videning Committee
made a recommendation regarding the design of a r~nE;~;~lian, north of Highland
Road to White Road. The choices placed before tf i~~~ ~(:~~ommittee where as
follows:
Option 1 - no median anywhere north of Highland
Option 2 -starring the median at Highland Road runm+iny~ north to White
Option 3 -starting the median at some point north of :Hi~;kory Hill running to White Road
i
All of the above options that contain a median in it w+ota Id incorporate into the final
design the appropriate median breaks at approxima~l;el~;~~~ every 400 feet and at any
street entrances. The Committee initially recommer~~de;~~d option 2 by a vote of 6
tot, however, after encouragement from our Mayor, thl~~;;- Committee reconsidered
its vote.
Mayor Rinker felt that perhaps the Committee was lii~ni~l ing the design possibilities
of the median by excluding any form of median befin~~ee~~in Highland and Metro,
then from Metro to Hickory Hill with its recommendc~ifior~I. I will not debate the fact
that I was comfortable with the Committee's initial re+c~rrmmendation in this memo.
However, I would ask you all to closely review the r~~iirli.,ites of the SOM Widening
meeting, as it was informative and addressed many aF ilhe issues and merits of
having a median:
MAYFIELL:) 'VILLAGE
6621 Wilson Mills Road 1\!i~~.yfield Village, Ohio 44143
(216) 4ti1-.;210
FAX 461- ~~349
