Regular Council Meeting
1-26-04
Page 2
? at sticking to the schedule. We were taking bets last summer that they wouldn't have the road
opened up in 45 days; they were right on schedule. They are projecting completing the first
phase, north of Highland Road by the middle to end of May and then we should be working on
our bike trail by Whitehaven Cemetery by Halloween. We should have the actual paving work
done for all of S.O.M. by the time fall rolls around. That is the current timetable. That is real
ambitious but already they are talking about trying to finish digging the tunnels by the pool;
these guys don't mess around so we will all be paying close attention. It is not only exciting to
just know that this project, which has been so long in the offing, is going to get done but for all
the things that will go with it. Really, our work is cut out for us this year. There is a lot of
planning and detail with landscaping, a variety of projects that are related to S.O.M. itself; we are
looking at putting in ballfields up by the swimming pool area, looking at this [the church]
structure. The church congregation has projected to conduct its Easter service in its new facility
this spring. We are already working on trying to work through a lot of details, frankly, of how to
utilize this new Civic Center. In fact, we're trying to come up with naming rights. One of the
considerations is-and we will see before the year is out whether or not this will become our
new Village Hall. We definitely want to use this space for public purposes and trying to get a
handle on the overall costs, the maintenance of the facility. This is the largest single structure
that we've ever had to look at and we want to make sure we do it right. I think you can see that
this is a nice space in terms of its utility, we can talk-not necessarily with microphones-and
with a little facelift, I think this space has a lot of potential. Again, it is the kind of thing where
we encourage each and every one of you to continue participating. Let's face it--in our
e community, it's your involvement that makes a difference. And that's a fact. So we welcome
.? you here tonight and, really, I think it's going to be an exciting year. _
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ:
Amendment to Agenda
Council President Buckholtz requested a motion to amend the agenda to approve Mayor Rinker's
appointments (as attached to the minutes as part of the permanent record) and to administer oaths
at this time.
Mr. Marrie, seconded by Mrs. Cinco, made a motion to amend the agenda to approve Mayor
Rinker's appointments (as attached to the minutes as part of the permanent record) and to
administer oaths at this time.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Agenda Amended
Confirmation of Mavor Rinker's Apnointments
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Dr. Parker, made a motion to confirm Mayor Rinker's appointments as
attached to the minutes as part of the permanent record.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion.
