To: Mayor Rinker and Mayfield Village Council From: Aintree Park Homeowners Ad Hoc Drilling Committee Date: November 16, 2009 A group of concerned homeowners from the Aintree Park neighborhood formed an ad hoc committee to learn about oil and gas drilling and to educate our neighbors about the risks and rewards of drilling. As part of our effort, we conducted a survey of Aintree Park homeowners to understand our neighbors' viewpoints about drilling. We contacted people in 123 houses and received 98 (80%) responses. Of those responding: • 83 (85%) are opposed to drilling • 9 (9%) support drilling • 6(6%) are neutral about drilling We asked the neighbors who are opposed to drilling if they would sign a non-binding petition which calls for a one-year moratorium on entering into oil and gas leases. 74 homeowners signed this petition, which is attached. The purpose of this petition is to demonstrate to you and to state legislators that we are opposed to the current drilling laws in Ohio. We support State Senator Grendell's efforts to reform the drilling laws to better protect residents of densely populated communities such as ; --Mayfield Village. ` In addition, we have created a color-coded map of the Aintree Park neighborhood which shows the results of the survey. Houses colored in red are opposed to drilling, houses in green support drilling, and houses in yellow are neutral. With the submission of the signed petition and color-coded map to you, we are requesting that you flle the documents with the Village's records pertaining to drilling and that you use the survey results and petition information in your discussions with state legislators and drilling company representatives.
