Regular Council Meeting
1-29-07
Page 15
Historical Societv - Mrs. Mills indicated that Mrs. Betsa will attach a letter that will be sent out
today to the general public regarding the Historical Society. Please make sure to read it.
Hxllcrest Council of Councils - There was no report.
M.A.R.C. - Dr. Parker reported that there was no meeting this month. The next meeting is set
for February 8t". Mr. Buckholtz asked Mr. Thomas whether we require a Council representative
at that meeting. Mr. Thomas indicated that other communities send Council representatives. Mr.
Buckholtz stated that we will keep it on our list.
Oirdinance Review Committee - Mr. Marquardt indicated that there was no meeting, so there
is no report.
Planning and Zonin? - Mr. Marquardt reported that Planning and Zoning met and addressed
the proposal by Holcomb's Education Resource for a facility on Beta. They recommended
passage by Council.
Recreation Board - Mr. Marrie reported that the Recreation Board met on the 17th to go over a
cauple of things briefly. We discussed the successful Christmas party. The adult basketball and
the MBA youth basketball is going very well. Sean Supler is doing a good job coordinating all of
the leagues. There are a couple of new things this year that will be in the Parks and Recreation
Brochure. The Skyhawks Sports Specialty Camps will be offered for 3-16 year olds. Dave
Perout and Bill Thomas are working on a new one for the summer, Just Add Water, new scuba
diving classes which will be offered by the Village. It was mentioned earlier that we are working
ori having the fields and parks smoke-free. Our next meeting is February 21St
Sl'ECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS:
2020 Vision Committee - Dr. Parker reported that we are looking at scheduling a meeting in
February.
Information & Technologv - Mr. Marrie asked Chief Mohr to mention what occurred recently.
Sometimes as mentioned by the Mayor, when we do things in the Village we do them right or
pretty well we don't do them at all. A lot of times people wonder why we maybe overkill. Chief
M[ohr can advise of a situation where if we did not do this right, which might have cost a little bit
more money, the Village could have been in some serious trouble. Chief Mohr reported on the
fact that the computer world was attacked recently with a horrible virus. We use a corporate
software that protects our entire community. All buildings are connected via a fiber optic
, nPtwork. We have a file server that is new from last year. All computers are connected. The
computer sent a notice stating that we were attacked by two worms. In doing research on that,
had that gotten through our fire wall which fortunately Council approved last year, we would
have blown up the entire system and just thrown everything away because it was the type of
worm that just attacks everyone's hard drives. It did its job.
