Regular Council Meeting
1-29-07
Page 5
Ordinance Review Committee
1. Wes Marrotte
2. Ron DiNardo
Planning and Zoninsz Commission
1. Wes Marrotte
State of the Village Address
Mavor Bruce Rinker:
A couple years ago in its wisdom the Charter Review Commission and the voters in their
collective wisdom agreed that it would be appropriate for me to deliver a State of the Village
address.
We have a lot for which we can be proud. One thing that is useful from my perspective is
that in about three days' time on February lst, I will have been the Mayor of Mayfield Village for
14 years, since 1993. One of the first things I recall when I took that office was walking in to a
letter on my desk from the Federal Government advising that Mayfield Village was now under a
mandate to convert septic systems to sanitary sewers. My first task in office was to deal with
sewer'systems.
Over the last 14 years, I have had to learn a whole lot about what Mayfield Village has to
offer. I have enjoyed every minute of it, I can tell you that for sure. But I thought it would be a
little illuminating to provide a little statistical information. Even though Phil has a hard time with
numbers, he was able to work up a few of these at my request.
Our population in 1993 was 3,462 people. We have gone down to 3,435 people. That is
the 2000 census, so maybe we are pushing 3,462 again.
Number of employees - in 1993 full-time we had 40. We now have 54. Part-time we had
58 in 1993. We now have 55.
. Seasonal help - they did not make it on to the radar screen in 1993, though we did have
seasonal help. As of 2006, we had 102 seasonal employees. Predominantly, it is when
the weather turns semi-decent. This is between our Service Department and Parks and
Recreation; between our swimming pool, all of the activities that we have, like our
camps. All of you know that we have gone from a town that has had a lot of nice
programs to some pretty impressive and extensive programs. We employ a lot of area
young people, high school or college students. We find a way to put all generations to
work in Mayfield Village. 102 seasonal employees is very interesting.
