Minutes of the Regulaz Meeting of Council
Monda.y, June 18, 2012
Page 11
Mr. Marrelli sta.ted, our parking code doesn't allow commercial trucks to be parked out in front
of buildings.
Council President Buckholtz asked, and speaking of parking, what kind of parking does he have
there?
Mr. Marrelli replied, maybe 10 spaces. He shouldn't need any.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there were any other questions or comments.
Mr. Marquardt stated, I have one more. If we are considering attracting business, one of the
objectives was to offset the 800 pound gorilla called Progressive. Number one, this business will
never make a dent in any of that. It's more trouble than it's worth. They probably won't pay any
taxes because the two people that xnight work there probably pay from some other location. We
ought to keep that in mind when we are considering businesses coming in. Is it really worth it?
We have spent a half hour tallcing about this thing. In my opinion, this business isn't worth
having in the Village.
Mr. Delguyd but it maybe went to the landlord.
Mr. Mazquardt replied, the landlord doesn't have a whole lot of respect for our procedures either.
That doesn't have much sway with me. If they have avoided the occupancy permit many times,
this being one of them, then don't ask me to do any favors on that. Let's remember there were
safety violations that were avoided by not going through the occupancy permit.
Mr. Esborn stated, economic development is significant. I look at three things, increased
revenue, filling a vacancy and even this is less direct but maintaining relationships with
commercial landlords. We are not increasing revenue that much because there's not that many
employees and because they are relocated from another spot in the Village. We are not for the
same reason filling a vacancy because they are shifting a vacancy. Based on the Planning and
Zoning meeting we had, we put the finger pointing that we mentioned earlier, I am not really
sure that we are harming our relationship with the landlord.
Mr. Marquardt stated, I don't think the landlord is working on any relationship with the Village
if he is avoiding our occupancy permit process and avoiding safety violations. It works both
ways. I don't have a lot of sympathy for that relationship stuff if it doesn't go both ways.
Council President Buckholtz asked, what are they trading in terms of square footage? You know
how we keep an eye from the economic development side of things on Beta and what is vacant
and available. In other words, is it blocking another business from coming in? Is there some
prime real estate?
Mr. Esborn replied, I don't know the square footage numbers off the top of my head.
Mr. Marrelli replied, 6,000 square feet. There are two tenants and they are sharing spaee.
