Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday, July 21, 2014 <br />Page 4 <br />Council President Pro Tem Marrie stated, you were the one who took the lead. Congratulations. <br />FINANCE - Ron Wvnne <br />Mr. Wynne mentioried, the bond refunding Council approved on Ju1y 7th will be closing this <br />Wednesday. <br />POLICE - Chief Richard Edelman <br />Chief Edelman stated, you may have noticed we have changed the parking on North Commons <br />between Parkview and White Roads. We have restricted daytime pazking between 8:00 a.m. and <br />5:00 p.m. to two hours. We did this to make the parking more available for the people playing <br />soccer. This is a project that I worked with Progressive management on. They were fully on <br />board with this. I did a lot of pass throughs before we did this. There is more than enough <br />parking for their employees. This was done with the safety of people playing soccer in mind. <br />We have been doing this for about two weeks now. It is going well and has been received very <br />well. <br />Chief Edelman continued, the State of Ohio about 8 months ago initiated a program called <br />MARCS in schools. They are providing a MARCS radio in every school building in Ohio. It is a <br />last ditch emergency effort to conta.ct law enforcement and police and fire in the case of a <br />catastrophe. Realistically everyone has a cellphone and if anything happens at any of ou.r <br />schools, dispatch is going to light up like a Christmas tree. But this is something the Sta.te felt <br />they needed to undertake for the safety of the schools, staff and children. We have agreed to <br />house the MARCs radio for the schools in our dispatch center for the entire Mayfield District. So <br />if a call comes in from any of our schools or Highland Heights or Mayfield Heights Schools, we <br />will answer that call and will dispatch accordingly. <br />Lastly, Chief Edelman reminded everyone that the second week in August begins the <br />International Gay Games in the Cleveland area. This is a huge event in the Greater Cleveland <br />area. Our racquet club on Beta Drive will be one of the venues for the games. We anticipate <br />about 75 athletes per day during the course of the games. It's free for anyone to come and watch <br />the athletes. These are world class athletes. I think it's going to be a great time and great for the <br />Cleveland area. <br />Mr. Saponaro asked, who is going to be the Resource Officer at the Schools? <br />Chief Edelman replied, Stuart Galicz, one of our patrolmen, was working with Bill this whole <br />summer. He will be taking over the reins. <br />Mr. Jerome stated, big shoes to fill. Chief Edelman agreed. <br />Council President Pro Tem Marrie thanked Chief Edelman, especially on the safety features.
