Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday, May 19, 2014 <br />Page 3 <br />Scott C. Snqder, CPA, Treasurer <br />Mr. Snyder provided the financial picture and plan for the School District, the focus of which is to <br />maintain sufficient cash reserves, using a11 resources to extend levies. The risks we assess are: <br />- Cash Flow <br />- Economic <br />- Governmental or political (Ohio General Assembly) <br />We are currently in the second year of a pay freeze. We negotia#ed a 4 year contract which uicludes <br />another pay freeze. We also implemented a 6% health insurance rate cap. <br />Mr. Snyder shared the operating budget, revenue and expenses, including explaining what every <br />$1.00 of property tax paid goes. <br />Where does the school district rank in Cuyahoga County relative to the residential school district tax <br />rate? The highest is Shaker Heights. Mayfield ranks 21St. We are in the lower 1/3 of the County. <br />We try to stay within that lower 1/3: <br />Joelle Magvar, Assistant Superintendent <br />Ms. Magyar stated, we need to look at our student environment a little differently as we go forward <br />with this vision. <br />- A more student-centered fiamework in terms of delivering instruction. <br />o STEM2M <br />o Students are in control of their learning rather than the teacher delivering that <br />information. <br />o Blended leami.tlg - on-line learning <br />o Teacher changes from instructional leader to facilitator of learning. <br />o Biomed research courses will take the place of a science course. <br />o Engineering classes - elective courses <br />o Project Lead the Way curriculum <br />Review of space to make it more flexible and comfortable <br />o Soft seating <br />o Technology compatible <br />o Wireless environment <br />o Interactive environment <br />o Removal of wall hangings that are distracting <br />o Desks on castors to either work on project in groups or by themselves <br />- Professional development for teachers for handheld technology <br />- Student directed curriculum. <br />o Flexible curriculum <br />o Out of course exams <br />o Test out of classes <br />- Teachers work together for credit for more than one course <br />- Collaboration, critical thinking, creativity <br />- Presentation area at the new Library.
