Caucus/Regular Council Mtg.
7-14-03
Page 7
can move in and move out; they can keep management, operational cost down significantly
because of really a very operational facility. Pittsburgh built its-the one that it tore down was
only 25 years old-it was built in the mid-seventies and they have sense revamped theirs in order
to meet the competition with a lot of other middle-tier cities. What this translates into is the
multiplier effect that this type of revenue stream creates is something significant. There's going
to be a lot of controversy I think, unfortunately, if you've been following the paper even this
week. The Plain Dealer was talking about the need for leadership in the County. We're a small
community, but symbolically and I think appropriately enough, we ought to at least stand up for
the proposition that we support those kinds of efforts that look to improve our regional economy.
This looks like one where it really would make sense for us to do it and that's why I have asked
Council to adopt this resolution.
COMMENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ
August Meeting -Council President Buckholtz said I don't have much. I don't know if everyone
got the word: I called about the August meeting-about moving it from the 11th which we had
scheduled it for the 11th, we would like to move it to the 18th-one week back. If that's okay with
everyone, that's what we would like to do.
Cuyahoga County Board of Health -request to give presentation -Council President
Buckholtz said I received a letter from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. They would like
to come out and do a presentation. I think a nice sweltering August meeting might be the perfect
time to have them. I will talk to Rick Novickis and see-~r the Director-and see whether they
can come out August or September.
DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS
Service -Council President Buckholtz asked Mr. Samac if Mr. Metzung left anything for him.
Mr. Samac said no.
Building -Progressive, they're mobilizing as we speak for their next building. The parking lot
area is cordoned off and they will be starting utility movements probably next week with the
building elevations to start immediately thereafter. We should see them coming out of the
ground before the snow flies.
Engineering - Mr. Cappello said just a quick report regarding the Village Circle electrical panel
enclosure, I spoke to Bill Schneider from the County Sanitary Engineer's Office and the
purchase order did go through. They did have a contractor and hopefully they will get that thing
moved very soon.
Legal - Mr. Diemert said on the Caucus agenda I had just noted that we are going to be having
legislation to reduce the blood alcohol content to coincide with the State for d.u.i.-from .10
down to .08. We won't be able to contradict what the State's requirements are.
_~
