Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, May 16, 2011
Page 17
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion.
Dr. Parker asked, by when do they need to get started in order for the pool not to be delayed?
Mr. Thomas replied, the first thing we need to do is caulk the pool. That's priority number one.
We would need three days to fill the pool and I would hope another three days to heat the pool,
especially if the temperature is 45 degrees. So we're looking at at least a week and a half, so if
we backtrack and we are opening up the pool on June 10th, I would say by June 1 St we need to
start filling the pool with water.
Mayor Rinker asked, Doug, John, yes, no?
Mr. Metzung replied, it's up to the gentleman we got the bid for the caulking. He assured me that
he will be able to get done with it by the end of the month timeframe and then a couple of days
for the paint. ,
Mayor Rinker asked, does caulk need to cure between the paint, dry surfaces, do we have any
insight on that?
Mr. Metzung replied, we need a dry surface for the caulk. That would take one good day. They
tear everything out and replace the caulk. They need dry weather. We expect we will get it done.
If for whatever reason we cannot, if it doesn't stop raining, we will make in-house repairs to the
caulking. We think we have narrowed down the worst offending areas. We will make those
repairs in-house and then we will get ready to open the pool.
Dr. Parker asked, are you saying that you would caulk it and then not paint it this year and
maybe do all that stuff next year, or what?
Mr. Metzung replied, if push comes to shove and we couldn't paint the pool, we wouldn't paint
the pool. The end that he is looking to paint is just the shallow end and down by the wall area.
Typically we paint that every year so it's not horrible. It needs to get done but it wouldn't keep
you from opening up the pool if the weather is bad.
Council President Buckholtz asked, you would patch it in-house and not paint it this year?
Mr. Metzung replied, that would be extreme.
Mayor Rinker added, worst case scenario.
Mr. Metzung replied, correct.
Roll Call: AYES: All Motion Carried
NAYS: None Expenditure Authorized
