Minutes of a Public Hearing
October 6, 2010
Page 18
Mr. Diemert: We've had quite a few. And I might say that there's not one application pending
right now relative to rezoning in this community that I'm aware of. There's no one
coming in wanting to rezone, no one here wanting to jump on to this and do it now.
Q: No, they're all waiting until after the election.
* *
Q: There's been a lot of discussion about Beta and the zoning on Beta and I think a lot of the
understanding is it starts with commercial or so on, but is the real issue that there are finer
segments there that we may or what you are hoping to possibly do is change as far as, is it
warehouse, is it the doctor, is it possibly something like hotel, is that where they are
segmented so finely there that there needs to be changes, is that what the goal is in Beta?
Mr. Fikaris: You know when I said Beta that was my term. That was my thinking. That was my
knowledge That was where most of the thought went. It was not talking about residential
or anything like that. What it solely was was to make the Village more competitive and
to, what I understood was many of the zoning proposal changes that come before us are
smaller issues that concem already commercially-developed areas or incidences and if all
of these little things need to become, we felt if they needed to come to a vote as it is now,
that that may serve as a hindrance in a market that has changed since 1984 and become
much more competitive.
Q: Being that Beta is commercial now, I know it's a broad term and it is segmented, what is
the hindrance to the way it is zoned now? What is the hindrance to developers or
whoever, what is the hindrance to the way it is zoned currently that is preventing -
Mr. Fikaris: What I interpret it is that the law stated that every proposed zoning change, no
matter what it was, must go before referendum.
Mayor Rinker: Let me interject if I may because, and I just got a nod from Mr. Farmer who
chairs the Planning and Zoning Commission. I think he'd like to follow up on it and I think part of, if we can accomplish it here is I think that the folks in Charter Review were
looking at sort of this process but we have also got athers who work day to day and I
think a question like that more towards specifics is probably, I think Mr. Farmer can
answer it. I would have some ideas. I think the other thing you have to understand is the
whole idea of a Charter Review Commission, it really is an independent group. Once the
people are appointed, they are free to ask us questions. I was asked to go to one meeting.
