Regular Council Meeting Minutes
10-18-10
Page 8
Mr. Marrie stated, actually the bid came in cheaper than what we figured we would have to pay
with the existing people.
Roll Call: AYES: All Motion Carried
NAYS: None Bidding Authorized
1Vlotion to authorize expenditure in the amount of $3,968.88 to B&C
Coanmunications for siren control equipment.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Marrie, made a motion to authorize expenditure in the amount of
$3,968.88 to B&C Communications for siren control equipment.
Council President Buckholtz asked if there was any discussion.
Mrs. Mills stated Chief Mohr can explain that. We have talked about this a lot in Caucus and
Council meetings, but do you want to address it very briefly again?
Council President Buckholtz stated this is the 12:00 Noon emergency siren.
A member of the audience stated, I have a question. Council President Buckholtz replied, as
unorthodox as it is, of course we always entertain questions from the crowd. Just state your
name and address.
Rick Christian
510 SOM Center Road
Was there any thought given to moving the siren to the new police station rather than try to run it
from the new police station?
Chief Mohr replied, no, because of the cost of moving the siren. It's a three-base siren and the
cost of moving versus what the new siren would cost, that's why I would recommend replacing
the 40-50 year old siren currently up there. Components of that siren are 50 years old. The siren
itself was replaced in 1960, so do the math. It would cost more to move that siren that it would
to build a new one. I am advocating that at some point there will be other communities looking
at a regional approach to new sirens and just replacing it altogether, but I think the issue of
moving it, it's in the center of town and it does its best to work right there with that type siren.
You move it further north, it takes away from the southern.
Mr. Christian asked, can you raise it higher?
Chief Mohr replied, that's a 50 foot pole, that's the standard. Yes, you could raise it, it would
extend the soundbyte coming out.
Council President Buckholtz stated, just to clarify, your question was, was thought given? The
Chief s first word was no. I think you demonstrated that, yes, thought was given and we talked
