Regular Council Minutes
1/24/OS
Page 9
financing that we have through the Progressive Insurance Company--that totals almost $550,000
per annum. Those are dollars that we, by law, channel back into infrastructure improvement for
kind of the unglamorous things-for sewers, for water, roads; it allows us to acquire land; it
allows us to develop parklands. All of these things are real, real benefits that we think in the long
run will not only benefit Mayfield Village but regionally.
Mayor Rinker read a letter of January 5`h from Fran Migliorino, Regional Representative from the
Ohio Department of Development inviting Phil Brett to become a member of the Governor's
Regional Economic Development Advisory Board-Region 8. Mayor Rinker explained Fran
Migliorino always comes to Mayfield Village to sit down and talk with Phil and have a Coca
Cola. She is the kind of playmaker out of Columbus, she has been around since the Voinovich
administration, that most mayors, most communities, keep an eye out for her. Do you remember
the show, "The Millionaire and Mr. Anthony"? Anyone remember that T.V. show? Well Fran
Migliorino is kind of like Mrs. Anthony in some regards. Limited resources out of Columbus;
they take notice.
Mayor Rinker said these are the movers and shakers. This is the kind of networking that we have
cultivated through Phil Brett over the years. I think that this is not only symbolic but it signifies
the direction that we will continue to head in and we really owe a debt of gratitude to Phil Brett.
Members of the audience applauded.
Mayor Rinker joked, now that I have taken all this time I think that Mr. Marrie's suggestion is
probably a good one.
COMIVIENTS FROM COUNCIL PRESIDENT BUCKHOLTZ
Council President Buckholtz said my comments are not nearly as dramatic and certainly briefer. I just
wanted to mention that on behalf of this Council, I spoke to our Law Director Joe Diemert about the
traffic situation at the shopping center across the street and he has already met with Mr. Musca
regarding that. They are going to be removing 2 spaces unmediately, if they haven't already, by where
the mailbox used to be for that area of travel through there. But I guess he wants to set up a meeting
with John and Chief Dearden later so that we cax-and anybody that has been in that shopping center, I
don't think I have to explain. But we are going to open that area a little bit between where the pizza
place is and the bank and try to make that a little bit more sensible traffic pattern.
Mr. Saponaro asked Council President Buckholtz if he could interrupt for just a moment and said, can I
ask--and I hope the Police Chief agrees with me-I think not only those 2 spaces need to go but even in
the interim before we wait till the spring, I think if you certainly take away those 2 spaces you are going
to find more people parking along and probably sticking out beyond the bank and I think you are going
to have more problems. I don't think that just taking those 2 spaces out right now is going to be the
temporary bandaid. I think we certainly need to look at the spaces that are along the north side of the
, bank and actually remove some, if not a11 of those spaces--at least the first 2 and move where the
handicapped space which is at the very end--when it had its opening-
Council President Buckholtz said it is no longer its front door.
