[LETTERHEAD] Dear Resident: Thank you for your interest in participating in the Drainage Assistance Program offered by the Village of Mayfield. Please note that the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Mayfield provide that each property owner is responsible for the maintenance of ditches which carry drainage from other properties through their own property even if they are on the public right-of way. This Program, however, is designed to help improve yard drainage of residential properties within the Village and to assist residents with the funding of any necessary repairs. Financial assistance is available and in no event will residents be required to pay more than 10% of the cost of repair. In an effort to prioritize funds and manpower, a point system will be used to evaluate each request. Higher point values are given for severe problems affecting several properties while less priority will be given to lesser nuisance- type conditions. Specifically, the following criteria will be considered when assessing point values: a) the number of properties affected by the drainage problem; b) health and safety; c) actual and potential property damage; and d) whether the drainage problem is caused by a topographical nuisance. The Program guidelines require that the Village of Mayfield be given permission to enter upon your property and any other affected properties in order to evaluate your request. Therefore, please complete and return the enclosed Drainage Assistance Request form.
