Regular Council Minutes
2-21-OS
Page 2
Rick Christian, 510 S.O.M. Center Road - said this past winter since all the mailboxes on the
west side of S.O.M. have been moved several times-I noticed that 10 of them were down from
the snowplows. I keep straightening mine up but every time the snowplow comes, it knocks it
back over. I hope something is going to be done about that when the weather changes and the
time to set the mailboxes back up properly.
Mr. Christian said another thing I noticed (I live on S.O.M. so I see the traffic on S.O.M.);
you've got 20 "no parking" signs between White and Highland; 5 speed limit signs. People are
doing 50 miles per hour down that stretch of road. When they come to my front yard it goes
down to one lane and I have seen traffic jammed up there, people slamming on their brakes and I
have seen a couple close calls for accidents because the people traveling in the left lane don't see
the signs on the right side of the road and there are no signs in the median to let them know that
it is going down to one lane; they get right up to it and they have to slam on their brakes. So I
think something should be done before there is an accident there. I travel S.O.M. Center Road,
here at the corner of Wilson Mills and S.O.M., if you are traveling north on S.O.M. when you hit
the traffic light there is a sign on the other side that says it's going down to one lane. Okay, the
right lane ends, it is moving to the left; people in the right lane of traffic tend to want to drive
into that left lane and cut the middle lane off that is also going straight. There's no lines in the
road to let them know there are two lanes continuing on the other side of Wilson Mills. There is
going to be an accident there sooner or later if there hasn't been one already. I have been cut off I
don't know how many times, people just decide they are gong to go through there and one side
or the other they don't care because it's not marked in the road. That was another concern I had.
Mr. Christian said another thing Doug said they were going to do something about my ski ramp
at the end of my driveway. I still haven't seen anything done about that. I am just kind of curious
as to when something is going to get done. I have a hard time getting in even with a truck. I have
a hard time getting in there because the snowplow comes and plows the snow upon to that ramp
and then I can't get up into the drive. So those were some of my concerns.
Mayor Rinker said if I can, and I appreciate your point about one--Chief Dearden, you've taken down
the information so we can follow up. I think everyone understands that during the construction and
during the winter it is a challenge on a good day. Again, we can follow up and just see if there is any
way we can alleviate those traffic issues. Mailboxes, I know, regularly, unfortunately with the plowing
(and we've had a couple of really wet snows, under those circumstances it is not unusual); we hy to
replace those [mailboxes] conditions permitting. So Doug I assume will follow up on that as usual.
Mayor Rinker said and with driveway there, I am not sure what issue is.
Mr. Metzung said the driveway will be-they were scheduled to be replaced late in the fall. As you
saw, they fell behind so they were more concerned with getting the road done than they were about
getting driveways done. So those are yet to be corrected. It will be done. I have all the confidence in
the world of getting that done. The mailboxes, I think we got them all on S.O.M. Center Road; we
knocked thein all down. But then as Rick pointed out, they were inoved so many times a lot of
them were never set; and the loose soil is going to knock them over.
Mayor Rinker said again, I am assuming with weather conditions being what they are and with
the interruption in the construction itself, it is a challenge for all of us. So we will try to keep on
top of it as best we can; just understand it is challenging.
