Regular Council Meeting
4-18-OS
Page 10
Mr. Metzung said as requested by Council, when this came up the first time I did have Mr.
Cappello go through and provide an estimated cost for this project. He concurred somewhere in
the $93,000 range for this work. I also, as I stated at the last Council meeting, met up with a
company that does this sort of work and they provided me with a quote of $89,000 but now we
come to the crux of it; to use the other company, we would have to go out to bid. In taking to
URS and Mr. Cappello regarding the cost for going out to bid, we estimate in the range of $5,000
to prepare the specs and go out to bid for that job. So now the savings comes down to $4,500.
Both Mr. Cappello and Mr. Dillon felt that having 2 contractors could lead to some ownership
confusion regarding if something were to be not square when wall is completed or when the
company shows up and sees what they bid against, there could be some issues in that regard.
Also, Mr. Dillon points out that by rolling it into the project whatever funding sources we are
using, this also will get rolled into those funding sources as opposed to the other costs being
directly 100% Mayfield Village so I am recommending at this time using Great Lakes
Construction at $98,000 for the headwall enhancements.
Council President Buckholtz asked, this doesn't change what we are actually doing in terms of
materials.
Mr. Metzung said any and all parties were working off the same specifications.
Dr. Parker addressed Mr. Metzung and asked, Doug, we still bear entire cost? Are there
additional sources of funding to help us with this?
,
Mr. Metzung said no but whatever sources of funding we are using for the project, this would go
into that pot. So, it is very likely we could be well in excess of that pot of money anyhow but if
not, if there are sources that Phil is using even if they are just for finance reasons, at least this is
rolled into that and paid out of that.
Council President Buckholtz said it keeps inclusive of the project itself. Any other questions or
comrrients for discussion? There were no comments.
Roll Call: AYES: All
NAYS: None Motion Carried
Expenditure Authorized
• A motion for authorization to go to bid for the culvert replacement on
Thornapple Drive.
Mr. Saponaro, seconded by Mr. Marrie, made a motion to authorize the advertisement of
bids for the culvert replacement on Thornapple Drive.
Mr. Metzung said this is the culvert near the 2 corners there-by the Smakula pond. We have
had an area that years ago, the Service Department went underneath; it is just an old corrugated
pipe that the Service Department patched as well as we could, it just continues to disintegrate so
it is time to tear it out. This was included in our budget for this year.
