Regular Council Meeting
9-24-01
Page 22
There were no comments.
ANY OTHER MATTER THAT MAY COME BEFORE COUNCIL
There were no further items before Council.
CLOSING COMMENTS
Mr. Buckholtz said we are having a Worton Park Homeowner's Association Meeting on October
16. We will send out fliers this week.
Mrs. Mills said Aintree Park is having its homeowner's meeting tomorrow night and the
Historical Society will be giving a short program.
Mr. Brett said his deepest sympathies to Mr. Metzung in the loss of his nephew who passed away
Friday.
Mayor Rinker said we need to make sure that discussion for the Issue 2 projects be carried to the
respective neighborhoods. The Worton Park waterline replacement project that sprang too late
toward the end last year--we tried to get emergency funding, now we will do this through
conventional Issue 2 funding. I suspect that in the long run we may succeed in being placed in
the small governments with a dollar amount that's below the half-million mark that they use as
their cut-off point. With Eastgate and Meadowood, we will meet with the residents there (they
have been meeting on a pretty regular basis) and with the events of last year when they had some
major flooding (which has not been repeated), it really woke a lot of people up to some of these
issues. The gambit is going to be pretty candid. We are to be going for a big grant this time. I
think we will just try to lay out some of the components of this thing for those residents. We
provided them with a sewer brochure and an updated sewer brochure last year. I think they are
much more conversant with the issues but these two applications will be submitted on Friday and
of course the whole procedure--it is really not until about January that we have a good sense of
what the vote will be. Before too long we want to meet with those residents so between Bernie,
Doug and Phil, and I will go over that (and Council representatives are always asked to attend
these) because they really are informative. It's an issue we haven't had to deal with for a few
years so revisiting it is worthwhile.
Mr. Buckholtz said we talked about whether to include residents of Eastgate/ Meadowood at the
November Sewer Liaison Committee but we thought it was a little premature (if we don't get the
funding, we wouldn't pursue the project.) It's still open for discussion.
Mayor Rinker said that's fine. I told them previously that once we got the Issue 2 packages
together--a lot of times it can get confusing because of the strategies we are trying to adopt.
Once we got that together, we thought it would be informative to let them know this is what we
are trying to do. I think the sooner they know it, the better they understand it. In Worton Park,
we went through 2 different application processes. I think that if it doesn't work this time
around, then we will focus the next time. They are the next up to do it. I believe we have soine
