Regular Council Meeting
- ~ 9-23-02
Page 2
Council President Buckholtz states we have a large group of people here tonight, I'm
always glad to see that people are coming out. You're always welcome. We meet here
twice a month. We like to see people get involved in the politics of the Village. I know
that there is an issue before us at some point on a business that wants to move into the
area that maybe of some concern to many of you. I don't know if everyone has agendas
that are out there. That item of a liquor/beverage store is not on the agenda. I have a letter
that I'd like to read into the record submitted by David and Jacqueline Steigerwald. They
currently own Golden Gate Beverage and they have purchased the property at 845
S.O.M. Cnt Rd which is where the old beverage store was. Letter is dated September 20,
2002:
To the Mayor, City Council and Concerned Residents of Mayfield Village:
It is our intent to appeal the decision made by the Board of Appeals
regarding the proposed new location for our beverage store at 845 S.O.M.
Center Road, however, we would like to postpone any vote by Council for at
least one month.
We recognize the concern of residents and feel that by revisiting the
site and taking another look at our project, we anticipate working out an
'~ ~ equitable solution for all parties involved.
Sincerely yours,
David and Jacqueline Steigerwald
We will not be taking action on it for at least a month, which gives these people time to
look at their site plan and look at their plans. I have had a conversation with them. They
do not want to come into a community face to face with opposition that anyone who's in
business knows that's not getting off on the right foot. However, they have made an
investment in the property, so there's lots to discuss. Dr. Parker, who is the Ward
Councilman in that particular area, we have talked about setting up a meeting sometime
between now and the time that we would be prepared to vote on it to_ discuss the details
with any and all residents from that area or any concerned residents from the Village in
general. We will establish that date and we will let people know. We really appreciate
you coming and there is a pad of paper in the back of the room, and I assume a pen. If
that is the item that you came here for, so that it shouldn't be a total loss, sign that clearly
with your name, address and phone number and we will see that you are directly called
and invited to that meeting. That would be a meeting that we would also be inviting the
Steigerwald's as well. If there is a way to work it out for everyone involved, that is the
way we like to work out every solution. Our concern is the residents of this Village.
Resident Bill Ward. 6875 Wilson Mills: I would suggest that Council people visit liquor
places that are on main roads before next month, so that they get opinions from people
that own businesses next to the liquor joint. I owned one once on St. Clair and I know
;~
