My, recollection when we did have .an
initial discussion on this, I know that we were waiting for some additional information. I
don't know if that has been generated or received af.this point but I know that we had
questions regardirig this. I don't remember receiving anything inore. That's what I am
concerned about in case I did not receive something that I should have based on the initial
reading on May 21st. I'doi1't have the Minutes in front of ine. I am going to let anyone else
rnake comments on. this as well..
1VIrs. Mills.provided Couricil President Saponaro.with the minutes on this item.
, Council President Saponaro asked, does anyone else haye comments?
Mayor Bodnar referenced a rnemo sent outon March 16" which goes through several
different issues, r.evitalization of Beta Drive and the technology corridor and tracking .
vacancies. I know we just had a coinpany call us within the last month. seeking to xelocate
its headquarters and asking us for vacancy opportunities; what land there was available,
developing appropriate incentives or assets such as high speed internet that might attract
businesses here, followiiig up on. branding in Mayfield Village to create aild capitalize our
identitiy and what's attractive here to businesse,s. An econom'ic developinent person would
also be able to be a liaison between businesses, could help with grant writing, aiid could
help us in offering economic iilcentives. The Village offers those. We tie our incentives
into measurable results. . We just don't give out incentives and say here's free money.
They liave to come back in order to earn those iiicentives. and prove that they liave made
the jobs and can come to support what tliey want to do. That was.in Mai•eh. We discussed
it in Caucus in May. . It sllould be in the Minutes there. I believe the Ordiiiance was
introduced in May because this is the Third Read tonight. Council Presideiit Saponaro stated, yes. What otller questions does anyoile else have on
this ordinance? This is the time we discuss. it. We would really appreciate it if anyone
would talK about this.. No one ]zas any concerns or questions, correct?
Mrs. Mills stated, I thiiik whoever we hire for tllis position if this ordinance passes, we
need to have someone very, well versed about i-eal estate and what's going on in the
community as far as what other communities are doing and what incentives they are
offering to Uusiilesses and wllether tliey are necessary. I think tllat is aii integral part.. The
seminar we went to down in Canton; they had an economic developinent person there and it
was vei•}, interesting liow creative some of tlzese communities caii be. The one example
they used is a slzopping mall in Ashland. Tlley have the regular Ohio stale tax, however,
