Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday; June 18; 2018
Page 30
. First Reading of. Resolution No. 2018-29 -"An emergency resolution authorizing
Mayfeld, Village to expend funds to Wichert Instu•ance SVC, Inc. for renewal policy of
business insurance coverage." (Introduced by Mayor Bodnar). (Law Department)
Council President Saponaro asked, do we need this to be approved this evening?
Mr. Wynne replied, yes:. -
Council President Saponaro asked, are we required to make a motion to Suspend?
Mr. Coyne replied, yes.
Council President Saponaro stated, until we get this clarified, we will make a motion to
susperid.
- Mrs. Mills, seconded by 1VIr. Schutt, made a motion to.. suspend the rules of Council
requiring a Resolution to be read on three separate occasions. .
ROLL CALL: AYES: Meyers, Mills, Schutt . Motion Carried.
Williams, Saponaro Rules Suspended .
NAYS: Marquardt _
Council President Saponaro stated, okay. We'vegot 5-1 to suspend, thank you.
Mrs. Mills, seconded by IVIr. Williams, made a motion to. enact Resolution No. 2018-29.
Council President Saponaro asked, discussion?
Mr. Wynne stated, the caption of the resolution doesn't say it, but this is for $115,000.
The renewal carrie in at $109,135 which is about a 7% increase over last year's. It is high
by a couple thousand dollars because we included on tlie iilsurance to renew police squad
cars that are not yet in service because they are still being equipped and also two plow size
trucks for the Service Department that are also being equipped with beds that are not in
service. Once those. five vehicles are placed in service, we will be, selling five veh'icles so
that cost to tlie Village 'in insurance will be several thousaiid dollars less. I got a
competitive quote from NORMA' which is the Northeast. Ohio Risk Management
Association. Their quote came in at $116,967 so. it's about $7,500 higher than the quote
from our current provider. We can't joiii NORMA until October lst. I am still evaluating
it because their quote was preliminary, but that's where things stand at the moment. So we..
would have to renew our current coverage at ]east tlirough October lst if we were to decide
to go with NORMA:
Council President Saponaro stated, W. just to be clear. The artificial numlier is the
$1 1.5,000. The $109,135 was the actual qtzote a.nd you have ihis not to exceed because of
the three cars?
