ORDINANCE NO. 2020-31 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Bodnar <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE <br />SUBMITTING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE IV, SECTION 1 <br />OF THE CHARTER OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE TO PROVIDE TERM LIMITS TO THE <br />OFFICE OF MAYOR TO THE ELECTORS OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE TO THE <br />CUYAHOGA COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS <br />WHEREAS, Article X of the Village Charter allows amendments to the Charter of <br />Mayfield Village upon a petition in the form as provided in Section 3 Article VII; and <br />WHEREAS, Article X further provides that any proposed amendments to the Charter shall <br />be submitted to the electors of Mayfield Village and must be approved by a majority of the electors <br />voting thereof; and <br />WHEREAS, an initiative petition in the form provided in Section 3 Article VII proposing <br />an amendment to Article IV Section 1 of the Charter of Mayfield Village to provide term limits to <br />the office of Mayor was submitted and certified by the Clerk of Council in accordance with Article <br />Ic VII Section 1 of the Charter. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of Mayfield Village, Cuyahoga <br />County, State of Ohio that: <br />SECTION 1. An initiative petition has been submitted proposing an amendment to <br />Article IV, Section 1 of the Charter of the Village of Mayfield as set forth in Exhibit "A", attached <br />hereto and incorporated herein by reference. <br />SECTION 2. This ordinance upon adoption by Council shall be referred to the Clerk of <br />the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to be placed on the ballot for a special election to be held <br />on March 16, 2021. Upon this proposed amendment being approved by the majority of the electors <br />voting thereon, it shall become part of the Charter of Mayfield Village, Ohio. <br />SECTION 3. Pursuant to the mandates of the Charter, a copy of the full text of this <br />proposed amendment shall be delivered to the residents of the Village not less than thirty (30) days <br />before the election and, pursuant to law, a legal notice will be published once a week for two <br />consecutive weeks at least fifteen (15) days prior to the election. <br />14 <br />
