ORDINANCE No. 2020 - 34 <br />Page 3 <br />EXHIBIT A <br />CHAPTER 1383 <br />Automatic Fire Suppression Equipment <br />1383.01 DEFINITIONS. <br />As used in this chapter, certain terms are defined as follows: <br />(a) "Approved" means approved by the Building Commissioner or other authority having <br />jurisdiction. <br />(b) "Area, building" means the area within surrounding exterior walls exclusive of courts, <br />but including all basement, cellar, stories and mezzanines. Areas of the building not provided <br />with surrounding walls shall be included in the building area if such areas are included within the <br />horizontal projection of the roof or floor above. <br />(c) "Automatic fire suppression system" means an engineered system using water, carbon <br />dioxide, foam, wet or dry chemical, a halogenated extinguishing agent or an automatic sprinkler <br />system to detect automatically and suppress a fire through fixed piping and nozzles. <br />(d) "Basement" means that portion of a building which is partly or completely below grade. <br />(e) 'Building" means any structure used or intended for supporting or sheltering any use or <br />occupancy. For the purposes of this chapter any additions regardless of fire walls, fire separation <br />walls, or floor/ceiling assemblies shall be considered one inclusive building and area. The <br />provisions of this chapter shall not apply to any detached single family dwelling. <br />(Ord. 95-8. Passed 4-24-95.) <br />1383.02 AUTHORITY TO ADOPT AND PROMULGATE RULES. <br />Authority is hereby conferred upon the Building Commissioner to adopt and promulgate <br />rules based on the standards of the National Fire Codes embodying details of installation and <br />construction of automatic fire suppression systems to carry into effect the provisions of this <br />chapter. Approval of devices shall be based on reports of a nationally recognized testing <br />laboratory. All rules adopted by the Building Commissioner under this section shall be <br />promulgated at least one month before application and enforcement. <br />(Ord. 95-8. Passed 4-24-95.) <br />1383.03 BUILDINGS AND OCCUPANCIES REQUIRING AUTOMATIC FIRE <br />SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS. <br />Automatic fire suppression systems shall be installed and maintained as follows: <br />(a) All new buildings 2,500 square feet in area or more as herein defined. <br />(b) All additions to buildings as in subsection (a) hereof where the total area of the addition <br />as herein defined is 2,500 square feet or more, including any additional story or mezzanine, the <br />addition shall have installed a complete fire suppression system. There shall be installed <br />between any new additions requiring a fire suppression system and any unsuppressed area, a fire <br />Ce wall in accordance with the fire resistance rating in Ohio Basic Building Code Section 707.01. <br />
