Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, November 18, 2019
Page 5
elected officials to start a dialogue on clean energy. They have a kick-off lunch meeting which is
planned for tomorrow at Lakewood City Hall. I will try to get some information on what
happened at the meeting and any further information and I will forward it along to Council.
Shane McAvinew (Parks and Recreation) —
Commission on Aging — The next meeting is on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in the
Community Room.
Senior Services — About 250 applicants opted in this year for Senior Snow Removal
Program. Remind your neighbors, family and friends that applications to opt out are due
by December 31 St. We had a Homecoming Dance on October 25tH. We had around 50
seniors attend that. Two Lunch N Learn programs were held this month. 50 seniors will
be going on a Christmas trip to tour A Christmas Story House and Stan Hywet on
December 41H
Parks and Recreation — We will be meeting this coming Wednesday, November 20tH
Committee meetings will be at 6:45, Entertainment, Activities and Programming
followed by a 7:00 full Board meeting. We also just completed another successful
Halloween Party. There were over 100 families in attendance. The restroom project at
Parkview Pool is coming to an end. It's nearly completed. The sails we have been
working on for a long time should be completed in the next week and a half. We also
have completed the last phase of renovation of landscaping at the Grove.
Chief Paul Matias (Police) — In October we did our Pink Patch Program where we were selling
police patches and pins to support breast cancer awareness and research. Kathy Troyer put this
together and did all the logistics and ordered everything. We had great support from the city on
this. As a result, we sold 238 patches and pins. On Wednesday, Sergeant Troyer is going to The
Gathering House and presenting them with a check for $2,485. It turned out to be a great
program. I appreciate everyone's support. Thank you.
Doug Metzung (Service Department) — After a short pause for snow, leaf season will continue
through mid-December.
Committee Reports:
Citizens Advisory Committee (Patsy Mills): Our meeting was October 28th. Danielle
Echt from the Rec Department gave us an overview of the new Parkview Playground
which was very informative. We gave them notice of the Public Meeting which was held
tonight. We talked about leaf pick-up and snow plowing. We talked about the seminars
from the Police Department. We are all in favor of you continuing with more because
they really did appreciate those meetings.
Chief Matias stated, I appreciate it.
Mrs. Mills continued, they were very very thankful to you. Citizens of the Year this year
were Lorry Nadeau and Patty Fioritto. This is our 25' year for the Halloween Window
