Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council <br />Monday, September 20, 2021 <br />Page <br />Council President Schutt asked, discussion? <br />There was none. <br />ROLL CALL: AYES: All Motion Carried <br />NAYS: None Financial Reports for <br />August 2021 Acknowledged <br />And Approved as Submitted <br />• First Reading of Ordinance No. 2021-10, entitled, "An emergency ordinance enacting <br />Mayfield Village Codified Ordinance Chapter 317 Officer -Operated Handheld Traffic Law <br />Enforcement Devices." Introduced by Mayor Bodnar (Administration) <br />Council President Schutt stated, Chief Matias would like this legislation to pass on emergency this <br />evening. <br />Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Marquardt, made a motion to suspend the rules of Council <br />requiring an Ordinance to be read on three separate occasions. <br />ROLL CALL: AYES: All Motion Carried <br />NAYS: None Rules Suspended <br />Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mr. Marquardt, made a motion to enact Ordinance No. 2021-10. <br />Council President Schutt asked, discussion? <br />Mrs. Jurcisek stated, I have just a couple of questions, Chief, if that's okay. <br />Chief Matias replied, okay. <br />Mrs. Jurcisek stated, in some of the earlier communications, you had indicated that the handheld <br />devices would be used for a couple hour span in the morning and then in the evening during rush <br />hour. Do you still anticipate using it for a couple of hours in the morning and in the evening? <br />Chief Matias replied, yes. We are targeting the rush hour when we can see when the higher <br />volumes of traffic are occurring in the morning and in the afternoon. <br />Mrs. Jurcisek stated, okay. And then I am thinking of that stretch of highway right there. Do you <br />know if, obviously officer safety is of the utmost importance, do you know if Mayfield Heights or <br />Highland Heights are discussing this at all? Could power in numbers cut down on that at all? <br />Chief Matias replied, I don't know if they are discussing it at all. I will say that both Mayfield <br />Heights and Highland Heights over the next few months are going to be getting new Chiefs, both <br />Chief Bittner and Chief Cook from Mayfield Heights and Highland Heights are retiring at the end <br />
