Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, April 19, 2021
Page 10
During this year of crisis, the Community Partnership on Aging was more important than ever
in helping to sustain our seniors. They continued to distribute meals through curbside pickup
models, and Meals on Wheels also continued to deliver meals, with some minor modifications.
Like the Recreation Department, the CPA is looking forward to resuming more normal
programming this year.
Donna Heath, our Senior Programming Coordinator retired in August of 2020 and spent her last
several months checking in on our seniors to make sure they knew that we were here to assist
them. As senior programming ramps back up this year, Sean Supler, our Recreation Department
Program and Facilities Manager, has stepped up to take on Donna's responsibilities. He is very
excited about this new challenge and I know that Sean will do an excellent job winning the
hearts of our seniors.
As you know, 2021 is the Village's Centennial Year. We look forward to celebrating with residents
later on this summer. So far, it looks like we can expect a busy year. On March 16, we held a
Special Election to address the issue of term limits for the Mayor's and Council's positions. In
response to two Charter Amendment Initiative Petitions filed by a citizens group, a Special
Election was scheduled and voters came out to make their voices heard. Both measures were
rejected by more than 66% of voters.
We faced many challenges this past year and I expect we will face many more in 2021. I look
forward to continuing to work with residents, staff and this fantastic Council and I am confident
that, through our collective efforts, the Village will remain a safe and thriving community.
Thank you.
Comments From Council President Schutt
Thank you Mayor Bodnar. At this time we would like to let Mr. Metzung say any other final words or
comments that he might have.
Mr. Metzung stated, thank you Council President Schutt. Yes, I do want to say thank you. Certainly.
Thank you to the current Administration and everyone there and the former Administration that I was
hired under, Bruce Rinker. It was an honor to work with Bruce. I have to say thank you to a cracker-
jack finance director we had at the time, Phil Brett for introducing me to Mayfield Village. Thank you
to all the Council members that we have had throughout the years beginning with Wally Ferrante back
in the very beginning all the way through with having Jen now and everybody new that's come on
staff. It's really great. The Council has been super in Mayfield Village. It's been a real blessing. I
count many members of the staff and Council as my friends now. It's been great. And the same goes
with the residents of the Village. I made a lot a lot of friends in the Village, some I am going to continue
to play golf with. I look forward to retirement and hanging out with everyone. Thank you Steve. Thank
you Council. Thank you Mayor Bodnar. Scott, good luck. Looks like they are forecasting snow. I
got out just in time. Thank you everyone.
Mayor Bodnar stated, thank you Doug. Take care. We will see you soon.
