ORDINANCE NO. 2022-07 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Council President Schutt and Council Members Williams and Meyers <br />AN ORDINANCE ADJUSTING THE COMPENSATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF <br />COUNCIL AND MEMBERS OF COUNCIL AND SUBMITTING SAME TO THE <br />ELECTORATE FOR APPROVAL BY MAJORITY VOTE <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 6 of the Mayfield Village Charter provides that the Council shall <br />have the power to fix all compensation paid by the Municipality, including the salary of its own members; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 6 of the Mayfield Village Charter requires that any increase in <br />compensation for the Village Council be passed by Ordinance and submitted to the Village electorate for <br />approval by majority vote; and <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 6 of the Mayfield Village Charter provides that any increase in <br />compensation approved by the electorate shall become effective on the first day of January the following <br />year and shall remain in effect unless and until increased in accordance with Article III, Section 6 of the <br />Charter; and <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 6 of the Mayfield Village Charter provides that each member of <br />Council shall be compensated equally, both newly elected members and those serving the balance of a term, <br />except the President of Council who shall receive ten percent (10%) more; and <br />WHEREAS, after consideration of the responsibilities and obligations of the President of Council <br />and Council members, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the Village to submit to the <br />electorate for approval a proposed adjustment in the compensation of the President of Council from <br />$11,000.00 per annum to $12,100.00 and a proposed adjustment in the compensation of members of Council <br />from $10,000.00 per annum to $11,000.00. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of Mayfield Village, Cuyahoga County, State <br />of Ohio, that: <br />SECTION 1. Upon approval of the electorate, the salary for the President of Council shall be fixed <br />at $12,100.00 per annum, and the salary for Council members shall be fixed at $11,000.00 per <br />annum, all effective January 1, 2023. <br />SECTION 2. This Ordinance, upon adoption by Council, shall be referred by the Clerk to the <br />Cuyahoga County Board of Elections not later than ninety (90) days before the November 8, 2022 election. <br />SECTION 3. By authority of this Ordinance, the Board of Elections is authorized and directed to <br />place on the ballot for the electors of Mayfield Village, at the November 8, 2022 election, the following <br />question: <br />
