Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, March 18, 2024
Page 10
Revised Code became effective back on December 7, 2023. If you would like to send this to Second
Read, you can. I can give you an update at the next meeting as to where the State is and I can find
out a little bit more about their timeline. I don't think they are ready to get their regulations in place
in the next 30 days. It probably will be in the next couple of months.
Mr. Williams stated, I would be in favor of waiting.
Mr. Murphy agreed.
Ms. Calta asked, who made the motion to suspend?
Mr. Murphy replied, I made the motion to suspend.
Ms. Calta asked, do you want to withdraw your motion to suspend?
Mr. Murphy asked, could we let it go to vote?
Ms. Calta replied, you could do that too. You can either just not suspend the rules. The suspension
is on the three readings.
Mr. Murphy stated, I don't want to make the decision for everyone on Council. I would say to put
it to a vote.
Ms. Calta replied, okay. We can do that too. This is just on the suspension. If you vote yes on the
suspension, it will only be read once. If you vote no on the suspension, it potentially could fail and
then you would have three readings on it.
ROLL CALL: AYES: None Motion Failed
NAYS: All
Ms. Calta stated, so the motion to suspend did not pass. This will stay on readings. We will have
a second reading in April. Can I add one thing?
Council President Schutt replied, sure.
Ms. Calta stated, I did inadvertently have a typo in this that has been corrected. The reference to
the Ordinance in 2017 should be 2017-21, not 2017-23. That's in the fourth Whereas clause.
That's been corrected.
Mr. Meyers asked, it would have to be rewritten before we did it right?
Ms. Calta replied, it's not substantive. It's in the Whereas clause. You can take that out of the
legislation. That has been corrected.
Council President Schutt asked, any other discussion or comments?
